I think this guy has the touch of the Jim Gannon's about him. Give him a couple of months and it looks like he could blow.

Firstly, I was going to give our new man every support before either giving him praise or criticism.
But already I am confused at his decision to bring the players in on Christmas Day for a two hour training session.
1) By the time most of the players leave and return home they will be away from their kids for around four hours.
I certainly would not be chuffed.
2) Fitness, or should I say lack of fitness, has been one of the reasons for our dismal performances this season. In any business, especially sport, if you are not fit you cannot perform so how will a two hour session on Christmas Day sharpen up our players.
3) As a former army PE instructor I reckon it will take a lot longer to bring some of our players up to a level where a two hour shift would be of any benefit.
Lastly.
May I suggest that it may be helpful if the Electronic Scoreboard is switched of with ten minutes to go in both halves as I feel some of our players are clock watching.(v Ross County an example).
I hope this

I think it is more to do with work ethics than fitness training if he's prepared to work till 9pm every night and come in for 2 hrs on Xmas day maybe he wants to see that commitment from players u never know if he gets a good win today he might give them it off but another big game on 27 th so u never know

In normal life if you get behind at work and you are not meeting targets you have to either work harder or put in extra hours.
There is no problem in my opinion for football players to come into training on Christmas day.
Football is a spectator sport and we are playing on the 27th. There are soldiers abroad and off shore workers who would love to be home for Christmas. They would love to be in the situation that they were training for 2 hours and away from the family for a short time.![]()
First off football players get paid a helluva lot more than soldiers.Originally Posted by GordonI
Its quite likely that this was discussed with the players. For whatever reason their normal day off is a Wednesday. Preparation for the next game normally starts on a Thursday. Its understandable that the new boss wants 2 days preparation.
ere does the confusion come from under perferomance all season at this level = retribution= in on christmas day tough 5hit. Players better waken up and get a grip or its a call centre career for them. Great result today don't care about performance need results now. Right behind Mr. Barraclough felt like a cup result today could not go to the game but jumped for joy at hearing final whistle..
I think there's too much being read into the players being brought in on Xmas day. It happens at a lot of clubs, especially in England now a days.
There are a few reasons for doing so, i.e., match prep', but also as a way of ensuring, especially with some of the younger boys, that they resist the temptation to indulge in the ol' "festive cheer".
From what I hear, training tends to be light and jovial and the most of the players actually enjoy it.
Do they do a Secret Santa because if they do then can someone get McManus "Hobbies for Your Retirement"Originally Posted by Alza
