Is Bolton v Wigan getting big?

I think it's fair to say, Wigan p1ss Bolton fans off a lot more than they used to.

Their last decade or so has been far better than ours - they've had better players, better managers, spent money well, played good football, and they've won silverware.

I've spoke to a lot of non-Bolton/Wigan fans now that recognise this as a big derby, unlike in the past.

Obviously, it's still nothing compared to Blackburn/Burnley or Preston/Blackpool but it's a new derby compared to them. Is it only gonna get bigger year on year? Will Wigan fans have to come to the Macron on a police escorted minibus...I mean buses, one day?

I think a big part of the importance of a "derby" is the hurt you feel when you lose to them.

I can't say Im anymore peed off at losing to Wigan as opposed to Reading or Ipswich etc. Whereas losing to Rovers pi55es me right off. Just don't think it could ever be a big rivalry especially seeing as they don't have any fans not that we are doing much better the last few years.

I sort of admire how Wigan have run themselves over the last few years and they have won something. Very much in the **** like us at the moment though.

To me its always been a big game, ive never liked losing to the thick wiggin cnts.Remember when they charged top end prices, when we played them at that muddy sh1thole springfield park ground and there was nearly a riot in away end.Seem to remember greeny getting a hatrick against them on his debut.grrrreeeeeeeenny.

Yeah it has got a big game as they've sort of mirrored us since getting in the prem, only done it better and on a much lower budget...oh yeah and won the FA Cup as well. Bar stewards!!!

I don't think we will sell more than 16,000 tickets considering the game is on sky sports.

They didn't do it better regarding league positions they finished in the bottom 6 every season apart from their first season when they finished 10th.

Don't know one Wigan fan personally so don't regard it as a derby as I cannot take the mickey or get the mickey taken out of me from mates etc I hope their away following is bigger than what they took to Ipswich which was about 50 edit Brighton I mean

Yeah sorry lord I didn't type that very well. We did better in terms of league positions and Europe but they won a trophy, spent very little, and aren't financially ****ed like us.

That said, as boyceee said, they are as sh1te as us at the moment!!!

They did do brilliantly in that first season, it must have been so unexpected for their fans. Normally you would expect a team debuting in the prem to get hammered every week and go down without a trace, Ala Swindon. Look at Burnley now and they have even been there once before. I think that was the season they got to the league cup final as well. Pity for them their gates never did improve from that first season but they did get decent money for some of their players, we didn't, 6 million for Cahill says it all

gates improve? We had no less than 23k in our first season in the prem. Of course the away end was full pretty much every week but 18k home fans is practically 1/4 of the town's population.

As for 'is the game getting big' I think it is, and fans should embrace it. I know you Bolton lot like to think your a lot bigger than us (and you probably are historically) but for the past 15 years we've been on a par, and we've ha
