The ship, or floating garage more like, 1100 cars on board, bound for Germany, started listing and the pilot beached her on the shoal, apparently. No oil spillage fortunately. Svitzer standing by to salvage her.
Not sure at this stage whether it's a malfunction or operator error, but some interesting pictures coming through of the car transporter currently aground and listing out in the Solent..

Sounds like a very sensible move - far better grounding her on the bank than risk losing her in the channel.
Just hope they re-float her before the next cricket match !
No idea where Bramble Bank is, would we be able to see it from Victoria Park where we often take the dogs walking?
They should have a few months before that comes around, it's about spring time isn't it?Originally Posted by PapaLazarou
Doubtful - either the pier at Hamble Oil Terminal or Calshot Spit itself would probably block the view.Originally Posted by BlueAdder
Should get a decent look-see from Hill Head, though.

It's later in the summer, I think - seem to recall last year's was around September time.
Loons..
Cricket on the sands looks like fun.
Was working in Deal years ago and some of the locals got all dressed for dinner, posh frocks and dinner jackets, to be waited upon silver service, fully laid up tables on the Goodwin Sands. Managed a couple of courses with wine before they boarded their boats and floated away.
That monstrosity of a car carrier is inherently unstable and about as seaworthy as a brick. A box, with a block co-efficient of 1. Huge freeboard and windage, centre of gravity > metacentric height = capsize. Maybe the cargo shifted or she was ballasted or bunkered all wrong ?!.
Whatever happened, wouldn't be paid to put to sea in something like that.![]()
She's on the move. Being towed by tugs to Stokes Bay near Grotspot.
Let the looting begin.
Not surprised they've not taken her back to Scum dockyard after the mess they made of loading her in the first place.Originally Posted by Dirtyweasel
