    Oldham- brave or stupid?

Well they caused a **** storm taking Hughes on board. Now they're going one better with Ched Evans, should they go through with it.

Would you allow him here at the CG? - view external link

Don't think it could ever happen here under the current regime.

If it was 1 year ago I would of let him join us.we are getting things in order now so it wouldn't be right for us to take him

In my opinion it would be stupid for any club to take him while his appeal is still on going.

Absolutely yes, if the player was good enough. I would then take the pleasure in dishing out life bans to anyone who signed some dumb petition.

When his conviction is finally quashed (unlikely CCRB will recommend a retrial) will all those dissenters apologise?

    I very much doubt it.

He is a convicted rapist. He is not repentant.

It is therefore irresponsible for any club to sign such a player.

And I know he is hoping to have his conviction overturned and I know that means he can't be repentant and I also know he has served his time and that it's a very complicated case. I've actually done quite a bit of research on it as it happens as part of a lengthy assignment, the whole situation is quite fascinating (although I doubt Evans sees it that was).

But the fact remains that until such time as his conviction is quashed then he is a convicted rapist, nobody can 'assume' how successful any appeal might be.

I saw no reason why sponsors of Sheffield United got so worked up just because the club, who were his last employers, allowed him to use their training facilities so that he could build up his fitness out of the public glare while he waited for his appeal. There is a world of difference between being allowed to use the facilities and playing for the team.

    So whi

I've made my position known on this before, no need to write at length.

I don't feel a sportsperson must be put up as a role model for matters outside his sport. If he took drugs, then yes, I won't agree.

If he comes here, does his job as he's paid to do, then I'm not disagreeable. But I accept others don't see the same way, and if his presence becomes a liability, then it's better not to.

So yes, but in the end, it will be a no, because of the enormous negative publicity it will bring.

You can own a club with a rap sheep of raping a 16 year old girl but you can't play football for having *** with a girl who had had a drink?

I make no comment on his offence, but surely if he has served his sentence, then he should be allowed to work? I thought our society was about justice being in the hands of the courts and not mob rule?
