    Dave Mackay

Died today aged 80. A real old school hard man barrel chested and didn't take any prisoners. I remember seeing him play at The Dell.

They don't make them like that any more - just as well they wouldn't stay on the pitch long with the non contact stuff we get served up these days.

    RIP Dave.

Never sent off apparently, and remarkably. Many glowing tributes to his leadership skills as well as his tough tackling style. RIP

That is a remark able statistic Proc. Many fine tributes for the man at the moment. Also the iconic picture of him sorting out Billy Bremner - not exactly a shrinking violet himself.( probably an auto red card now)!

Real hard men back then, including Norman bites your legs Hunter, Ron Chopper Harris, and of course our very own Big John Jake McGrath. A breed apart just as well they had their time when they did, there would be plenty of red cards flying around if they were playing now.
