Heysel Disaster : 30 Years On

Along with the Bradford City fire Heysel is often seen as the 'forgotten tragedy. I remember watching on television as the disaster unfolded. I wouldn't wish what happened that day on my worst enemy.

RIP to those that lost their lives that day. - view external link

My thoughts also the last five years of that decade in terms of Tradgedy were some of the worst in European Football history.

Disaster is an interesting way to describe it.

"Disaster" has a euphemistic ring to it. In fact Heysel was a crime.

Tragedies like these gave football a massive wake up call. Any one of us could have been caught up in one. The Spurs v Wolves one in the FA cup semi-final 1981 springs to mind even before Bradford, Heysel and Hillsborough. - view external link

The Crime was that it was ever played in that Stadium in the first place, not fit for purpose doesn't even come close to describing it!
