    Keeper update

Killie fans are saying that Samson is ready to sign for us on Monday. We tried to sign him two seasons ago and he knocked us back,he is a steady enough Keeper but I thought our new keeper coach would have come up with a keeper he already knew and had worked with

Not unhappy with that though not over the moon either...I was impressed with him at St Mirren behind a relatively modest team when he turned us down before but from looking at highlights (unreliable an indicator as that is) he hasn't really kicked on much. At 31 we won't be selling him on either but I'd be surprised if he costs us more points than he gains us, even if I don't expect a Ruddy/Randolph-like return on the plus-minus.

Pretty much the same view. He's a solid keeper and can be relied upon, certainly an improvement on what we have at the minute, and that's all you can ask.

An experienced keeper who will surely command his area and will except no excuses from the players in front of him,

Oh dear. Living 10 minutes from Rugby Park I am acutely aware that journeyman Craig Samson has just had the worst season of his career and most Killie fans have wanted him dropped and replaced for some time.
The problem is, that Ian Baraclough would not be aware that Gordon Strachan was having a laugh when he included him as 3rd keeper in the Scotland squad at the end of a bad season.
Got to say he hits a mean ball on the golf course as his drive went for miles when we let him through on the morning of our Ibrox glory night.
Seriously, if he can regain his form and confidence he can be an ok goalkeeper for us.

Operating with our budget we can hardly take that attitude - Tim Clancy wasn't good enough for Killie but did a solid enough job for us. Plenty of players work out fine at some clubs but not others for various reasons. Samson may or may not be the answer to our gk issue but what Killie think of him is hardly a defining factor.

I remember a lot of fans expressing disappointment when he chose to go to Killie (his local club), rather than come to us, has he got that bad over the time he has been there?

He used to have a decent reputation but Killie fans don't seem to rate him. He's probably a standard lower Premiership level goalie - lower in the pecking order than say Fox or Cerny, who are with Ross County and Partick respectively.

Supposedly we are going to field a trialist keeper against Sligo Rovers.
