Such sad news.
But I have to agree with TFA, times have changed. In this day and age letting a child of 7 out on their own at any time of day - never mind 8pm - that far away from home is just neglectful.
My kids may well resent me growing up that they don't have the freedom to go here, there and everywhere on their own, but when they get older they will realise that I never let them out of my sight - except for school - because I love them so much and wanted to protect them!

Must admit I thought the same but without knowing the facts it's best not to make assumptions. May well have been in the company of older siblings who were looking after him at the park 2 miles away. The building site he was found in was a few streets away from home.
Whatever the details, what a tragic event. The poor kid.
