    Better Performance Yesterday

But there are still significant issues to deal with. A proven striker is required up front. The Lens/Defoe partnership looked good and should flourish. We fanny about with the ball to close to our own box and put players under pressure. We defend to deep at times and allow the opposition to regroup prior to our attack. First point on the board lets get going.

I thought that Lens, Defoe and Fletcher didn't look too bad. Fletcher could have easily put that one away. He was there at least. The two biggest weaknesses for me were PVA and Coates, especially in the first half. I really can't see the point in picking PVA at present, he is dire.

Agreed on Lens and Defoe. Promising combination... both intelligent players so hopefully they'll work together well. Thought Fletcher SHOULD have put the chance away in fairness. I think Coates was good and bad on Saturday, couple fo good tackles but also in two minds on occasion. Like last season, I think he'll get better as the season moves on. PVA.... terrified me when he started playing around in his own box and heading towards our goal FFS! M'Vila did a tidy, if unspectacular job for us, too.

As ever we were denied a stonewall penalty, but an overall fair result. Pantilimon saved us a few times.... his left handed save reminded me of Craig Gordon when he made a similar one.

At least Dick got them up for it ( no pun intended ), but we need a bit more skill in the middle ( Maybe De Guzman if reports are right?? ) , a GOOD, powerful imposing centre half and a striker who knows where the net is.

Ellis Short has said the blame lies with him... put it right, then! If not, w
