E&S is doing a series of old match reports from classics for Wolves, West Brom and Walsall. First up for Wolves is the 1974 League Cup. Does the report below bring up any feelings from that day? Does it match up with how you remember the events of that day?

Unfortunately for me I was too young to remember this.
I certainly remember winning the same trophy against the European Cup holders 6 years later though

Having watched the match on youtube a couple of times, I can say that Gary Pierce's play stood out to me. Made several quality saves and important decisions throughout the match.

"There had been City's 20 minute spell to contend with at the start of the second-half when the game might easily have been lost, but the assault yielded only the one goal and in the end victory went to the better team."

I was there and agree with the summing up. Overall, we were the better team, regardless of City's bigs.

Agreed we were classed as underdogs but that was one hell of a Wolves side!
If in terms of todays transfer market their frontline would be worth £100 Million, then ours of Wagstaffe, Richards, Dougan, Hibbitt, would be worth £99 Million!

I've always said this eve.
Yes, we dominated most of a decade in the fifties but we had a bloody good side in the early seventies also.
We had a bit of a blip then had another decent side late seventies also.

The days when The League Cup meant a lot more.

Our last cup win is brought back by the E&S as they put out the match report for the 88 League Trophy triumph. Many of you were amongst the 80k there that day I reckon.
