Spot kick gives 'Well three points

We deserved the win but made it hard work. Still, suddenly we're in seventh place! - view external link

Looked good for 20-30 minutes in the first half, then when we go 1-0 up we start to retreat back into our owe area and stop fighting in the midfield for the second ball.A few of our players did not look fully fit,Dom Thomas appeared to run out of steam after half an hour,Johnston was struggling from the moment he came on.We still lost every throw in where we tried to shy the ball high and long.Would have to say Killie are a really poor team, yet we still didn't seem to manage a serious shot on target, other than the penalty it looked like we could have played all day and never scored.

Pretty fair assessment. Kilmarnock were the worst team Ive seen in a long long time yet had it not been for a soft penalty wed have been goosed. Dont think their keeper had a single direct effort to save. However that said beggars cant be choosers and stacking points matters more right now. Still looks like a long hard slog of a season ahead with many disappointments on the way.

We weren't lucky to win, but at only 1 - 0 it could have gone wrong. Marvin seems to have lost his mojo for the time being. Theo seemed strong and willing; we'll see how he does over time. Connor had one blinder of a save. Dom got into dangerous areas; there will, I hope, be days when his shots actually test the 'keeper, and when his cutbacks and crosses land at 'Well players' feet.
Job done, but still plenty of issues!

We started off well but then fell away badly after the opening 20 minutes or so. Central midfield was again our weak spot and disappeared for large parts of the game ie the second half. Killie are a poor side and lacked incisiveness up front but had a powerful if unimaginative midfield. Kennedy, Thomas and Moult caught the eye although young Dom's final ball was all too often poor. MacDonald was played out of position and Leitch and Lasley were mainly ineffective - unable to close opponents down and poor distribution.

Accurate assessment of the game. That seems to be a habit we've got ourselves into by starting games brightly but after 20 minutes or so falling out of the game. I put that down to a weak midfield. I thought Kennedy and Moult were our best players yesterday, Thomas would have got man of the match if he could manage to find a final ball, hopefully that will come with a bit more experience. A much needed three points, hopefully we cab build on that now.

According to the 'Herald' today, Moult's second 'goal' wasn't offside. I'm in the DC - anybody a bit closer with an opinion?
