Someone came on saying they were setting on,but that was a while ago.Must have been a sharp turn down in business.
I was told today that Darron tools on Canklow Meadows is closing down at the end of the year.
Sad sign of the times isn't it.
Doesn't one of our regular posters work there. Avondale Miller?

Yes I remember that too shshsh22. When I went there today it was like the Mary Celeste and I ask if a lot were on holiday. The guy in the office told me they were winding down because it's closing at the end of the year.
Reading this board I can understand that there is no shortage of tools in Rotherham.
Well ive seen the knives out for you tonight.
Yes i did work there. I took Vol. Redundancy Jan 16th after 14yrs there. Last time i went down i was told it was shutting down 22nd Oct. They made 29 redundant in Jan, then another 33 in March. Everyone left, including staff, were told that they would be paid off and then some of them would be offered jobs, on different contracts, at the other plant Techman in Chezzie.
Darrons and Techman are part of an Austrian Company, Scheoller Bleckmann Oilfield Exploration, think it about 5th biggest in the world.
It was decided to shut us instead as Techman have lots more room for expansion when(if) the industry picks up.
Like you said Loyal, sad times....P.S. think Andy Taylor, Ryans Dad is one of them to be relocated.
P.P.S...they were setting on right up to about Sept last year......
Very sad to hear this. When I was a nipper, we installed the crane tracks in the building. In a few short weeks the building was transformed from housing the lightweight manufacturing of greenhouses to the prestigious capability of being a major supplier of heavy parts to the oil industry. It was great for the town of Rotherham at the time.
Sad times. I'll report on it next week. The company said that they have had to restructure due to low global oil prices and declining global drilling activity.
......that's right Rothbiz, but the parent company had already put the wheels in motion about 5 yrs ago by opening a facility in Ho Chi Min, Vietnam. They said( the Austrians) that it was to supply the far east thro Singapore.......yeah, of course haha, Steel the same price but manufacturing costs hardly anything. The clock was ticking then, all they needed was an excuse.............. Like i said, they're about the 5th biggest in the world, they can have Oil tools made anywhere.
Are there any UK owned companies in the Rotherham area anymore?
