Thread: Gigs from over 50's

    Gigs from over 50's

Just come back from a Morrissey gig, him and his band were brilliant.

Got me thinking about people I have seen who have still got it at a certain age.

The Who were still well worth a look when I saw them whilst Stiff Little Fingers were a pile of poop.

    Any others?

Oh where do I start! Being in the punk scene I'm regularly around such bands. For a start, 2 members of one of my bands are over 50 but I doubt you'll have heard of them! We're playing with the UK Subs this week though so there's one for starters. Charlie Harper is still going strong, what a legend.

Last weekend we played a festival up in Derby with bands such as The Men They Couldn't Hang, Conflict and Discharge; all still going strong.

Other bands off the top of my head such as Drongos For Europe, Cocksparrer, Sham 69 (both lineups!) and Infa Riot have also still got it. If anything, 'Sparrer just keep getting bigger!

I'd have to disagree about SLF though, they were great at Rebellion a few years ago.

Charlie Harper, that takes me back.

I bought his Barmy London Army single, me and about 10 others I reckon. Glad to see he is still making the music.

Thinking about it I agree with you about SLF, must have been an off night as I saw Jake Burns playing with Bruce Foxton once somewhere before? in a drunken haze and that was a great gig.

Not to demean any of thes mentioned as I liked a lot of them, I suppose I was talking about the so called "big"s, whether going to see The Stones nowadays for example would be good tunes or just going because of the.

Don't know if the Billy Bragg can be written round here but he was the dogs when I saw him quite recently.

    To each his zone!

Gerry and the pacemakers are playing Eastleigh tonight.
Probably more pacemakers in the audience than on stage these days.

The Stones were brilliant when I saw them in Hyde Park in 2013. The thing is they can actually play their instruments now whereas back in the 60s and 70s they couldn't. Many long-term Stones fans said it was the best they've ever seen them play.

Saw The Who at the Rosebowl a few years back, they were ace although Townsend didn't have the strength to smash his guitar up despite Eight Ace imploring him to "Smash it up, you fu[color=black]cking pa[color=black]edo!!" On more than one occasion.

SLF were a top band for me. First saw them 81, Seen 'em 6 or 7 times. When it got to the point at the Pompey Guildhall and they refused to play 'Alternative Ulster' you knew they had turned.

I expect Madness to do another "last ever gig" at some point soon. They've done a few over the years!

    Evening all,
I just had to reply to this one...my favourite band of all time RUSH ....went over to Toronto in June to watch em on their 41st anniversary tour which maybe was their last big tour, always wanted to watch em in their own back yard ..saw them in the Air Canada Centre.. They sounded as tight as ever and the gig was fantastic...Geddy Lee struggles a bit with the old high notes a bit these days but a better bassist you will not find, Alex Lifeson on lead guitars was superb as ever, and The "professor" Neil Peart on drums, need I say more...a dream come true to watch my musical heroes in Canada, night night
