    O/T Nature...

The Burnley site had a very interesting thread going on nature. I saw this this morning and thought it might be of interest:-

Fears for coastal defences as 'supertide' and storm hits the Westcountry

The so-called supertide will peak at the weekend as a rare alignment between the moon and sun triggers a higher than normal gravitational pull which will cause the sea to rise to an unusually high level.

Good idea for a thread, Wokes, I love to witness the extremes of nature, whether bordering the depths of -50 F which I experienced in Montreal one winter, still played outside though, or 105F summer heat a couple of years later. Mother Nature puts on some of the best shows around!

The photo above reminds me of a trip to the Welsh Coast my wife and I took in 2008...might even be the same town, large crashing sea waves and all...certainly the same weather conditios!

Tuns the Welsh coast and the West Country are two different parts of the country.

Thanks, Mr. D, still looks suspiciously like the drenching we received back in 2008, though we were in Aberystwyth, Wales, at the time. Oh well, high winds and heavy rains can all look alike staring out of a fish & chip shoppe in dreary December.

Saw two Red Kites flying quite high out the back of our house on Saturday morning. apparently effortless flight with lots of gliding. I have waited for some time for a definite sighting - no doubt about this one!

Saw two more red kites at the back of our house yesterday. They interacted as a pair and they have an amazing ability to use their bodies to glide. I don't remember a single wing flap from either of them.

Another single red kite appeared near them later, but kept away from the pair and did not attempt to interact.

Good to see that these fabulous creatures are protected and their numbers seem to be on the increase.
