'Well score five to end Cove's cup run

Job done with a full power opening spell. The gulf in class was clear but the visitors stuck to their task. Bring on Monday's draw. - view external link

Job done at the end of the day but dear me, the performance was awful from us especially in the second half as we slackly gave away possession on numerous occasions and almost gifted them a couple of goals whilst trying to walk the ball into the net at the other end. With the start we had we really should have been hitting double figures today. And special mention to James McFadden. He is totally done, as his cameo today proved.

But all in all we had to get into the next round after years of failure to do so in this competition and we did so, but we will need a massive improvement if we are to have any sort of Cup run this season.

All in all a business like performance I suppose the 'slackness' in the second half was perhaps complacency being 5-0 up can see team taking their foot off the gas. However if it was complacency it must be tempered with caution next opponents may pose more of a threat. That said Mark McGhee signalled his intention from the get go by fielding his strongest side. Congratulations to the manager and the team on the result and all at MFC including the ground staff and volunteers in getting everything ready.

Good performance all round, OK ended up a bit of a training match but still a professional job first half.
We continue to improve and have now gone 6 undefeated, no mater how crap some suggest ya to be that is good going considering where we were a month ago, well done to all. Credit where it's due. Hope the Cove fans have a safe trip home and wish them all the best.

Some of the comments after last weeks game and again this week about performances being 'disgraceful' shambles' and the like make me chuckle. Getting pumped 5.0 at Accies, knocked out the cup to rovers or Morton are occasions to use comments like those. Just goes to show we have our fair share of crackpots. Keep taking the pills lads, and keep the brilliant posts coming ya wee smashers...????????

I didnt say that we are rubbish, just that we turned in an awful performance - in my opinion, of course - against very weak opposition today. We had the game won by the fifth minute and we're 4-0 up at half time, yet from the 5th minute until our 3rd goal and the entire second half we had no grip on the midfield and surrendered possession cheaply time and again and despite that we still managed to create numerous opportunities - a pointer as to how poor Cove really were - we seemed to be insistent on walking it into the net.

None of that mattered in the end but we really need to work on our concentration, ball retention and finishing or we'll be out of the cup - again - as soon as we meet any half competent opposition.

I can't argue with the walking the ball into the net, we should have scored another few. Let's just hope wee McDonald has his shooting boots on next week.
After watching the Jambos V Sheep game we should go to Wynecastle next week with no fear. It was a *bleep* game and both teams are ordinary.

Today's game was about 3 things 1 Win 2 No injuries 3 No bookings and we done all 3 the fact that we got lazy at times and tried to walk ball into net on other occasions to me reflected the fact we won game in first 6 minutes so to me perfect outcome

I'll take that any day of the week against a team from a lower division. We had everything to lose today but from the off it was a professional job by the team. There was no complacency - Keith Lasley, in particular, showed a very positive attitude, ably backed by Stevie Hammell and Grimshaw, from start to finish. The only issue might be over-complication in trying to score,. It looked like Scott McDonald was trying to put a goal on a plate for Faddy.

A question - Liam Grimshaw; has he signed up for the rest of the season? I thought his loan was finished (hope we have not cocked that up and get dumped out of the cup for fielding an ineligible player!!).

McGhee said In post match that he is waiting on an answer but expects him to stay, still nothing agreed it would seem. Taylor has returned to parent club.
