    Interesting Comment

Heard SD on the radio this morning say that "every decision that we make that (sustaining a football league club) will be at the forefront. We must have a football club, a league club if possible, in this town. That's always been the remit"

Apparently this is our long term plan !!!!

This is now part of SD's (and perhaps the club's too) PR campaign to condition fans for League 2 football next year, which is becoming ever more likely.

Sustaining a position in the FL is probably a realistic goal, given the resources that the club has and its determination to balance the books.

SD's scored an own goal by proclaiming that the squad he assembled was going to pass other League 1 clubs off the park. Now he's back pedalling so fast, relegation to League 2 will be badged as an achievement.

Personally I think the club should aspire to do better than that, because if you set your sights low, then you're on a slippery slope.

The fact that former League clubs have vanished into the Vanarama is due in part because there isn't a massive gap between the bottom half of L1, L2 and the top clubs in the National League, as Eastleigh aptly demonstrated. The best way to avoid the trap door out of the FL is to avoid League 2, not settle for life in it.

CreweMcIlvanney , my sentiments entirely. I was astounded by Steve's comment that FL survival was the best we could hope for. I have a lot of time for the man and think he's been hard done by but that statement lowered my estimation of him. Heaven knows how that's supposed to motivate either fans or players.

SDs comments show a total lack of ambition or respect for the supporters and shows how far we have fallen since the heady days in the championship under Dario. I hope he and the directors realise that this kind of negative attitude will affect season ticket sales for next season.
I also wonder whether it encourages the likes of Colclough and Garret to seek transfers away from Crewe as soon as possible. If that is true is says about everything about our academy set up.

Love him or hate him, that is not Davis talking. Reckon his hands are tied and he's being made to look a fool.

And still no comment from the Chairman or Board member on anything? THAT my friends tell us the story that the fans really do not matter to this club one iota. Dario is the Director of Football and even he doesn't give interviews anymore. Talk about a closed shop. I think he still resents the fans for getting him sacked as manager. Its all pretty pathetic actually and will only drive more fans away. Maybe they will come back when we can play more local derby's with the likes of Wrexham and Chester as who really cares about us playing Gillingham or Colchester?

Anyway, why it is essential to keep our league status? People scoff at the non league clubs but Wrexham have higher gates than us and Eastleigh proves there really is not that much difference in quality no matter what our club tries to pretend that having an 'academy' somehow entitles them to some preferential sell on fees. What its really about as its always been about here and that is the Directors trying to avoid p

Why not reduce our academy or close it and spend the money on proper scouts who will travel abroad and bring talent back to us for development or to go straight into the team . There has to be a new way to find players. The argument to keep the academy going in its current state could be about what it has achieved in the past and to keep paying certain people a large wage when nothing appears to be produced to sell. They think we know nothing about football so they can pull the wool over our eyes. The proof is in the pudding . If young players are produced and sold then we see the system working but at the moment it appears to be broken and we struggle on with it.

Bizarre how the club is now looking into the way forward and holding meetings to decide strategy!

WTF have the board been thinking recently? Action has been needed for years and ffs, we are not a one man club.
