    Bournemouth AFC

Our fans used to say and some still do that we could never sustain being in the Championship long because our gates were too small and so we couldn't compete on wages with the 'big guys'..And we did really well to get there with a small academy, some brilliant kids that came through back then and some great signings like Brammer and Jack etc. And so I wondered what sort of gates Bournemouth AFC get in the PL being they were a similar size club to us?

So I had a quick look at their home gates and its just over 11000, each time which is again similar to what we got when we were in the CC when we played such 'big clubs'..Also it won't matter how long they spend in the PL with 100 million pounds per season income just from TV rights alone. It looks like they will manage to stay up and so another 100 million next season too and then parachute payments add ons even if they were relegated. I haven't checked what level of academy they have but the moral of the story and difference betwe

I think you will find we are not comparable with Bournemouth as our gates in the Championship were rarely above 8000. Also, they have had a wealthy backer putting money in to the club and hats off to them, they have used it wisely and had sustained progress. It would be fair to say that given the same level of investment we probably wouldn't achieve the same success partly because we would struggle to attract bigger gates than we did in the championship. Bournemouth have a little less competition for support than we do. W e have to compete with the Manchester Clubs, the Liverpool clubs and Stoke and Vale. Also, I believe the game has changed sadly due to the excessive amount of money at the top table. The morals of parachute payments is a completely different argument and one you will not be surprised to know I am not in favour of.

No doubt some of Bournemouth gates were less than 11K against smaller clubs in the CC but I'm suggesti

Of course Mike you will be aware being of an older generation, £3.8mill doesn't go very far. The club, in my opinion are quite right to conduct their affairs the way they do. Yes, the money goes back into the Academy and given that this is the way the club has decided to operate it is quite the right thing to do. I will be interested to see how we operate in the transfer market in the summer because without a doubt we will need to bring in one or two. But you can't seriously think that a club such as Crewe spending significant sums of money on players is sustainable. For a start, not every player you bring in is a success. And that happens at all clubs. We would be no different. And that is the point. We can't afford to spend money on players that don't work out for us. A different matter picking up a lad for £25k or whatever because the investment isn't so great. Signing the lad from Ilkeston is exactly what we do best and I for one would be happy to see more of that.

Agree don't feed them. I bet there is a lot like me that don't post due to the few that constantly say the same over and over and over again!!

If people stuck on topic for each thread it would make a far better forum, instead what we have is the normal boring people trolling every thread with crap!

*Facepalm* Bournemouth had a wealthy backer, pumping in over 50million in 3 seasons. Can't compare.

    Precisely!
Hassall may have his wealth but he isnt wealthy enough to lace this guy's shoes!
Different league, different planet, no comparison!!

(he even bought a property in Sandbanks - and you don't do that unless you have a bob or two!) - view external link

A better comparison may have been to have selected Blackpool. They gained promotion on a relative shoestring, but went on a downward spiral when the Oystons saw the pound signs. Sounds familiar, I wonder if they have any farming relations in S Cheshire!!!!!!!!!!
