    Academy ("oh no, not again")

Link to Dave Artell, Chronicle interview: given Dave Artell's job at Reaseheath, I know you could say 'well he would say that wouldn't he?', but it makes perfect sense to me. - view external link

I'm glad you started this thread Derek...

It makes no sense to me as you would expect as DA is wrong on so many points and he said..

"The head of academy operations told Crewe Alex Player HD: "It's absolutely *****, if we weren't Category 2 we might as well just shut the doors."

Yet ANOTHER manager by the way and so how many is that we have down at RH?,,,but his point is absolute tosh, as only a couple of clubs in L1 and L2 have Cat 2 academies and just how to they survive without one? How does Vale who are getting the same gates as us now? IF most of these clubs had Cat2 then he may have some evidence to back him up, but he has none.

He also claims that parents would take their kids elsewhere if we weren't Cat2 which is again absolute tosh as

You didn't comment on my response to your golfing analogy on coaching on the other thread!

OK, I read your reply about golf, Nick Faldo and his former Coach, whatsisname? I was into golf in that era and played two or three times a week for over 40 years. Its a great game ruined again, by big money, like football. NF's record as the best golfer we have had is undoubted (I bought his book at the time to get me to be a scratch player...Nah it didn't work! These coaches, like Leadbetter and Butch Harmon seem to be around world class players BEFORE they started coaching them. Did BH really improve Tiger Woods? Would NF have won the Open and Masters without Leadbetter? Woosnam and Lyle did etc.

OK people argue that its the 'coaching' t

On the golf analogy mate...Most Golfers will have heard of the 'Vardon grip' on the golf club. Its where you grip full hand with the LEFT hand five fingers (for RH golfers) and just two or three fingers of the RIGHT hand with the other fingers overlapping and why is that? The coaching manual will explain that is so the right hand doesn't overpower the left hand and cause duck hooks etc and so use the Vardon Grip. (I wonder how Harry Vardon came to that conclusion?) BUT!!!

Kids will pick up a golf club with TWO hands and I know because I have tried this out many times. Its far better for 'most' amateurs at least to use BOTH hands full on the golf club because 99% of amateur golfers SLICE the ball and when they start off and then try and correct that by hitting the ball harder which worsens the slice and so they need to go back to what comes naturally and use both hands and control the ball that way like base ball players do..But you won't get ANY club Pro telling you to do that bec

Trust me, give me reasoned discussion over hurling insults any day.
Not in my nature to do anything other anyway.
I did try what I thought was a mild form of it recently on one of our 2 favourite trolls on here but my "Nurse!" reference was removed.
    No sense of humour!

Thanks very much SC...I agree anyway.. Who are the favourite trolls and the 'non' favourite ones?

    BTW...Golf again and dropping..

My best ever round of golf was in the Presidents Cup at Crewe Golf Club which I won easily and the then President was Alan Foster, a former Crewe Alex player who was in our team that beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in 1961 and one of my playing partners was none other than Norman Rowlinson who was very impressed with my golf swing and score that day...

Calling Eamonn Andrews/Michael Aspel, you're gonna need a bigger (red) book!

I'd just like to call "Amen" on this one now - all further correspondence to David Artell?

Fair enough but maybe you could answer my question above that is very relevant to all these discussions on the academy and as you seem to have been to many youth games over the years at RH especially and so can you honestly say you have seen a significant difference or ANY difference in the players since we were Cat2? Apart from fitness just in case you made that a significant issue, which you may not of course. Thanks.
