Should we have protected the spine

I know I'm using the retrospectoscope here but I would have rested/protected Carson Keogh Thorne Bryson and Martin last Saturday and given others a run out. We've lost Thorne but Carson could have broken a finger and Martin torn a thigh muscle against a typically rumbustuous Ipswich. The odds were heavily against us finishing fourth. We need to be smarter.Keogh needs to calm himself down on Saturday and show some composed leadership as well. It's going to be a horrible nail biter Saturday but I'm looking forward to it hugely.Come on you Rams !!

It was a no brainer for me. Especially as playing a Mick McCarthy Team.

Players recovering from Thorne/Hughes type injuries should get a rest whenever possible anyway, ideally every 10 games or so to protect them from fatigue related relapses. Martin, Thorne and Bryson are, for me, the irreplacables in this team. Would have rested them beyond a doubt on Sat. Gave Blackman a start up top, Baird some minutes back with Derby team and prob Bucko and Grant 90 mins in case we need them in play-offs.

Poor George, I hope he recovers quickly and we don't rue his absence...

Sheffield Wednesday rested all 10 of their outfield players at Wolves on Saturday. They had nothing to play for and neither did we. It was an outside chance that we would overtake Hull and when they were in front at half-time we should have made some subs then. People will say it is ok to talk now with hindsight but injuries and suspensions were the first thing that crossed my mind when I saw our team sheet on Saturday.

It's not hindsight though, the smart ones amongst us were calling for players to be rested and protected. We may have been shouted down by 'some' on here but history has proved us right. I wasn't confident before but with no specialist DCM with our formation our season is as good as over.

Isn't it a no win situation. If we had tested players there would be a number on here saying we should have at least tried!!!

And then we'd have gone into the playoffs with our strongest team. That seems like a win to me rather than fitting one of our best players into DCM out of position, and finishing in the same league position.

Not really, doubt the coaching staff give a stuff about whats said on here - should have rested players sat but its history,

Having said, that I'm not convinced Thorne is that great a loss, he has been distinctly average this season and we have Johnson and Hughes who can play that position
