    Jamie Slashdown?

Not sure how I feel about this talk. Personally I prefer goalkeepers in the Scoulari the Spaniard mould that are prepared to come off their line and use the two-footed drop kick to the head of the opposing forward at the same time as taking out our centre back with a firm punch to the groinal area. The type of keeper that likes to command his area and I am not sure Jamie is in that mould. He has been retired for a year so they will need to have a careful look at him but still think he is a better bet than the inexperienced kids they are looking at. The more I think about it the more I believe Scoulari should be begged to come out of retirement from his Latin idyll.

We weren't in a position to offer Jamie a contract so the training period ended after a week. We will have to rouse Scoulari from his Spanish siesta I feel.

Konopka gone and the search goes on. It can't be that difficult to find a competent keeper ffs!!! Jonah has used 10 keepers in his 14 months at the club. Does he know what he is doing or is he just unlucky? At the moment we are looking at starting the season with one unfit and the other an inexperienced kid.

A competent keeper who is available, that is a bit like Ldb backing Stratford winners, they are hard to find Corks.

Maybe but other clubs with less resources than us seem to manage OK. Look at the guy who played for NI at the Euros. He was playing for some Jock club ffs and he was superb. Cookies record is poor in this department and it will cost us unless he gets it sorted.

Fair comment. I read that our first visitors Carlisle are having similar problems recruiting a 2nd keeper to put pressure on Gillespie. Lots of keepers around but it is a matter of making sure we get the right one (for a change). Murphy was never good enough, I used to call him Captain Calamity. We have an experienced goalie coach now and I hope he is playing his part recommending keepers to Cookie or not as the case may be.

Jones has suffered a recurrence of his thigh injury....Cook quoted in the News as saying we will have a keeper in place for the Carlisle game ...

He said: ‘I can tell our fans not to worry about it, we will bring someone in."

‘We have been in the market for a keeper for a bit, we thought we’ve been close, then we haven’t been close.

‘Our fans know we must bring a keeper in and the search goes on, that is all we can tell you.

‘We want one today, we want one as quickly as possible.

‘But in our willingness to get one we cannot bring people in for the sake of it, so it is a little bit watch this space.

The club has had five feckin months to get this sorted out and here we are a few days before the start of the season ... perhaps this should have been a priority instead of endless numbers of midfielders.

    We're doomed I tell ye ...

PC seems to be getting exasperated over Jones it seems to me but he reportedly was training yesterday.
