Thought this would be the case. Damage limitation between now and Jan for me. Forget nonsense re high ambition for another season. Just pray we avoid injuries and suspensions to forwards. Not playing Halford no longer a luxury we can afford.

Well the management team have had their chances and given our financial resources have made their choices for one reason or another over the past 2.5 months and the next 3.5 months will be the litmus test of the decisions they have made. No good blaming unlucky injuries or evil agents now, anyone in management knows that there are potential risks out there every day and should have plans to mitigate them.

19 more games before January 1st so 20 to 26 points from those games needed to have us on track for safety.

This news is a bit worrying.
If Blackstock gets injured we're back to square one as far as the striking department is concerned.
I hope AS and the Technical Committee know what they're doing because they've back tracked again on what they said they planned to do.

Do you all think that our current squad is good enough then? Stubbs clearly does think so, I don't. Think we missed the boat when we didn't get anybody of any real quality in during those summer months and AS and his Merry Men then went off to Poland for some bizarre reason. We have too many unfit players in the squad and one or two that look, to me, disinterested. Could be a long old haul to January...

Mr Stewart spoke on radio and clearly said strikers would be joining. Now its one so yet another false statement to the fans. What a poor last few months this has been between club and fans.

I think the current squad could be good enough if we get real good look with the injuries from now on, get Newell in the side who has the required quality. Have the right mix of youth and experience. Stop changing the back four every game, all players make mistakes, we have defenders with experience of successful championship relegation battles and these players should be used. And finally play a LB at LB. But I don't believe AS is going to do all that and lack of options up front is an obvious worry.

I criticised SEs recruitment policy advocating an end to short-termism and a more considered long-term approach but after the debacle of recent weeks I'm wavering in my opinion. I'm approaching my 60th season so I've seen some shockers but even by those standards I have to say our preseason preparation was abysmal. Our transfer policy and reluctance to invest, whilst having some merit in terms of its emphasis on youth and potential, has left us desperately short on genuine quality and we're having to pray we can minimise injuries and suspensions in order to ensure we have at least one striker in the starting line-up. Maybe we should have concentrated on mending holes in patchwork quilts, at least that ensured survival. I've taken an overdose of optimism tablets but still can't see how the current squad can remain in contention to January and beyond or how Stubbs can structure, motivate and deliver an upwardly mobile Championship team. However, just in case, I'm making my own forward plans by collecting recipes for humble pie...

I still think its because the chairmans seen what the recruitments have been like and hes lost faith already..therefore maybe saving money for the next manager...
The whole scenario has been nothing short of embarrasing.. if best, derbyshire, wanted to go, fine, grant ward cant afford him, fine...but to let smallwood go on loan and then sign a reject on a THREE year contract tells me theres somebody down there that doesnt know what theyre doing..
