Say that Strachan either quits or is relieved of his job after a poor result at Wembley- who would you want as his replacement?

Here my choice from the left field. Give it to Peter Houston, he was formally assistant Scotland boss, has managed at the highest level in Scotland with Dundee United and he will not take any nonsense from pampered so called star players. He will at least get them better organised than the present squad and will accept noting other than full commitment and loads of passion a feature currently lacking.

    Discuss and dissect.

Back in this month during 1977 prior to the second - leg of a League Cup tie versus Dundee wee Strachan claimed he '' Didn't even know where Dumfries was '' but payback was soon achieved as Queens tanked the Dark Blues SIX - NIL - never really liked him since then and all these years later he is still coming away with smart - ass answers especially to the press. He will go if Engerland gub us at Wembley but Scotland being Scotland I would not be surprised if we won or drew. As for a replacement I have absolutely no idea who could fill the poison chalice post !

The Iceland comparison is interesting because it actually highlights the difference in forward looking and planning between their F.A. and ours. The relative success being enjoyed by the Iceland national team is the culmination of over 20 years investment in infrastructure and recruitment of fully qualified youth coaches.
Even if we adapted their methods tomorrow, regrettably we would still find ourselves up to 20 years behind as their prior investment has resulted in a progressive conveyor belt producing players at a much higher standard that we currently seem able.
The link below provides an interesting account of how they moved their game forward.

Playing Chris Martin or Stephen Fletcher rather than Leigh Griffiths is a sacking offence in itself.

The local lad Hanley has only started one game for Newcastle and is 3rd or 4th choice at centre - back for manager RAFA and
Leipzig are flaming with Strachan for dropping Burke and not even putting him on the bench.

£5 million pounds for Hanley and he is fourth choice at Newcastle.
