    R I P Gary Sprake

Just seen it on BBC local football news.

From that never to be forgotten Don Revie side.

Sad news indeed. A great keeper, in a great side. I'm sure his own goal will be mentioned but his many brilliant saves will not. Thanks for the memories GS.

    RIP.

First Leeds goalie I remember from that great side of the early 70s. Was prone to the odd mistake and eventually replaced by David Harvey but I'm sure there were many days on the local playing field when I was Gary Sprake rather than Gordon Banks, Alex Stepney, Peter Bonetti, either Springett or may of the other keepers I remember from the era.

Sorry to hear this. A fine keeper and not a great age. He is certainly in my personal pantheon of favorites from those days - which includes all yours, CAM plus, from a little earlier, Bert Trautmann, Lev Yashin and of course my avatar-ed favourite.

Glad to hear he's one of your 'favorites' too CT ;-)

Haha, nice catch, Sota! I do usually try to edit back to 'english' English on here but some times I forget. Been living between these two sets of spelling conventions for more than forty years, off and on, and I still muck it up occasionally!

Hope you didnt take your ball home when they put too many past you.....ha..funny, we must have all been like this as kids...in our street we were obsessed by foreign names..not many foreign players in england then... one lad called stevenson was stuvesenti..another one called parks, he was called parkellini.. how corny it is to think of it now, but at 11 years old.. it always reminded me of watching celtic win the European cup..in black and white on our 4 leg fergy tele..
