    Video Assistant Referee

Will be used for the first time in England tonight against Germany. Its currently used in the Bundesliga and will be used in the World Cup in Russia. Will also be rolled out for the FA Cup 3rd round. It will officiate on controversial penalty decisions which is the biggy, plus red card and offside decisions. Surely a step in the right direction?

Agree totally although there will still be many incidents where it is not 100% clear so there will still be some controversial decisions. Just the nature of the game.

However, if it allows decisions like the penalty given against N.I last night to be reviewed then a step in the right direction in my opinion as well.

One person sees a handball as accidental, another as deliberate. Who is correct? The man in the middle or the man with the TV screen?

That's the whole point Chris...the man with the screen can get two or three runs from different angles...should be more successful I would have thought.

Having said that there are referral guys in cricket that are not that great.

Surely the point is the man in the middle often doesn’t see the handball, or at best sees it in a split second, from a distance and often not clearly. The man with the monitor can see it slowed down, from different angles and without the pressure of the players and fans on his case.

No one is suggesting that they will always get it right and often there isn’t a clear right or wrong but surely it has to be worth a try because it ain’t working very well at the moment and these big decisions so often decide the outcome of the result.
