HI Newcy, i couldn't put my favourites in order,but here are the ones listen to a lot.
Robert Jonhson,if there was a family tree of guitarist he would be at the top.
BB King,best vibrato ever,great phrasing. The shredders should learn and watch him,he can tell a story with a couple of notes instead of 100 jiborish notes.
Peter Green, before his lsd trip,the the lot.I like to listen to players who soul,blues or whatever you call it in their fingers.A lot of players are great technical guitarists but too mechanical.
Eric Clapton,top player one of the greats rhythm or lead.
Ronnie Earl, slow blues.
Roy Buchanan,makes the telecaster sing. Think Jeff Beck and his wammy bar, think he was influenced by Roy.
Danny Gatton, another telecaster player,best chicken picker iv'e seen and plays slide with his beer bottle.
Wes Montgomory, top jazz man.
George Benson,soul jazz fusion, great player ,like his double octave,think he got that from watching Wes.
Curtis Mayfield,plays in the black tuning,wrote his stuff.
****ie Rodgers ,soulman,worked with Al Green and a composer.

I am also into guitarists who express with a minimum of notes. I aint impressed by these guys who just try and play a run of notes as fast as possible. In saying that Alvin Lee could express himself with great feeling eg The Bluest Blues but could also play as fast as anyone I have heard or seen.
