Thread: Four changes

    Four changes

Griffiths, Tait, Hammell, Grimshaw, Bigirimana, McHugh, Bowman, Fisher, Dunne, Kipre, Tanner

Would guess it's a 4-4-2 diamond but who knows really...

Lost 1-0. Another game we should have taken something from but if you make defensive errors and miss your chances life will be hard.

On the other hand, without four nailed on starters we're always going to struggle and we have absolutely no way of having similar cover for a stand-out player like Moult - everyone knew that from the start so there's little point in chucking the toys out the pram.

Our situation is still ok, fine in fact and two home wins v Dundee and Hamilton will have us sitting pretty. Two further losses, however, and we can safely talk about a crisis.

Dundee and Accies are beginning to get all their players back from injury and are scrapping .some points.Neither of them will be in fear of playing us at FirPark on our current form or team line ups. IMO both Dundee and Accies will be very happy to get involved in a bruising battle of a match, something our players on present form will not relish particularly in our midfield. We need our guys to grab the game by the scruff of the neck and battle for 90+ minutes.

Pretty much sums it up for me. Yes, we're missing key players but those who are playing are clearly not up for scraps. These two upcoming home games won't be easy.

I think we're seeing one of the difficulties of having a big squad of average-ish players. In previous seasons when we've done well, we've had a very small group you'd like to see start, kept them fit and the rest have stepped in occasionally. This year seemed different with so many players having valid claims for the first XI.

It's fine when it works. You might not love Bowman or Rose - or even McHugh this season in all honesty - but when Moult and Cadden were providing some magic, the unit was generally solid and a player or two coming in didn't make much difference.

As soon as it doesn't work and changes are required - and it's magnified 10 time when it's key players out - you've got a big problem. What's the default formation we fall back to? What's the core of the team? I don't think anyone, not even Stephen Robinson, knows right now. We made four changes today, ok one enforced, but we could make another one, two, three, four or none at all on Saturday and you wouldn't feel much more confident. At the minute there's a feeling that we're just chucking players out there hoping to stumble across a winning combination again rather than having any real belief in the day's XI.

Robbo chose to build us up in his post-match comments today...it's a fair enough path to take but we need a win, regardless of performance, against Dundee to prevent a very nervous Christmas. Another tale of woe won't cut it.
