    Strange game today.

Glad that one’s over and done with. Never like games against Millwall but that was a strange one.
Riding our luck at the moment...as much of a case for Carson to have been man of the match as Nugent imo.
Could easily have finished 6-3 or even gone horribly wrong had Millwall taken a couple of early chances.
Still we took our chances - well some of them - they didn’t take theirs’ and we climb to within touching distance of an automatic promotion place. Who’d a thought it just a few weeks ago?

ramAnag. We are certainly getting the luck at the moment We are still getting outplayed in midfield only Millwalls poor finishing that kept us in it A better team today would have buried us thankful for Carson again Another tough game at Hull I watched them last week against Cardiff on Sky they are a good side very unlucky to lose and again today theve outplayed Leeds goalie makes a howler and they lose If you check Hulls squad it must be in the top three got some really good players I'm going and will take a point now

Bet you’re going to Ipswich too. I’m sticking to Sheff. Utd. on New Years Day. Three tough fixtures coming up. Fitness and injuries will be massively important...be happy with five points and delighted with seven.

Our midfield is slow, hopefully the right signing in january will rectify that. We cant keep relying on luck to get us wins, its seen us in with a chance of automatics but the midfield desperately needs sorting.

Or you could also easily correct the flaws, dispense with the need for lucky breaks and instead turn teams over, in tandem with the results

You make your own luck, you don't go third in the Championship with luck. Give these players and manager the credit they deserve.

Happy to give them credit MoP and agree they deserve praise for turning things round so spectacularly. Do also agree with DCFCA about the need to strengthen midfield though.

MoP. Not sure your right we have had a tremendous amount of luck this season But yes credit to the lads they have taken advantage of it The thing is what happens when the luck runs out teams are missing
loads of easy chances against us and that won't last ramAnag us I'm going to Ipswich and I will settle for five points from the next three games they are very tough and just hope our luck holds out

Views from both ends of the spectrum then. No surprise there. We were great. They had bad luck. In truth, we did what we do these days. Concede very little and score almost at will. I was more than a tad surprised at how well Millwall played with the exception of their shooting.

Take the Villa game. We won that 2-0 on 33% possession but had just 1 shot less than them but an awful lot more on target than them. Yesterday we had 52% according to the beeb, more than I thought from watching the game. We had 1 more shot and twice as many on target. Villa never looked like scoring. Millwall did...... but failed. Partly due to their own poor finishing and partly due to that man Carson doing what he does.

I think we had more trouble with the 'Wall because, rather than mirroring our own 1-4-2-3-1, they went 1-4-4-2 and, unlike Villa, when they had the ball, they moved it quickly and were accurate in their passing. IF, and it's a big if, they had a striker worthy of the name, the game might have been a draw. They don't and it wasn't.

In a lot of our games of late we have played against teams playing 1-4-2-3-1 and we haven't looked in danger. Millwall's set up had us, at times, overrun in MF and looking vulnerable. Teams outnumbering us in MF who have people who can score will continue to cause us problems. We need a tactic to counter this.

We are getting some very good results, deservedly so. In the next 5 League games we welcome Sheff U and Brizzle and visit Ipswich. 6 points or better from those and we can put our confident hats on. Also in January we visit Millwall. They will be smarting from yesterday and we can expect more dirt and more rapier like moves. I think that game will prove harder than yesterday's did.

Luck? No, not really. It can't be luck when the opposition can't score whether you give them 2 or 12 chances a game.

Confidence levels? Mine is at the level of top 6 is looking like it's ours to throw away. Top 2 (only 3 points away as things stand) is more than a possibility. Good results against SU, Tractors and Brizzle with wins against the others will probably see us top 2 by the end of January.

The big question thereafter is will we see our usual post January dip, will it start earlier or will we, in the words of the song by N F Porter, will we keep on keeping on?

MadAmster. When I talk about luck I'm not only talking about the opposition missing chances there is a lot more being lucky than that Take Sheff Wed concede pen after 5 mins player sent off then they outplay us for rest of the match Villa they had to play us without a recognized striker that's lucky for us surely Of course we've played very well in some matches and deserved to win But we've also not played well and also won not sure if that's not luck or not
