I would get all dewy eyed if he decided to tackle food deprivation, starvation and water shortages throughout the African continent.

Whatever you think of Richard Branson, it is great that people like him are willing to push the boundaries of technology so that the human race can evolve.
You may think that these schemes are vanity projects, but, as a race, we are still excited by new challenges and Government backed schemes like these have not continued as fast as they were doing in the 60's.
People such as Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk should also be commended.
Elon Musk developed the Tesla Car and also owns SpaceX which intends to develop commercial flights to Mars.
Jeff Bezos (CEO of Amazon) is also trying to make space travel commercially available.
I know a lot of people will argue that it is all a waste of money, with so many challenges on Planet Earth (the same argument was used during the Apollo moon landing program), but I think that people like these inspire people like me and especially the younger generations to get into technology that will ultimately better all our lives.

"We are still excited by new challenges"
Well at least us Brexiteers are, I'm excited by the challenge of governing ourselves and deciding how to spend that £20 billion we foolishly donate to the EU to do it for us. Of course others, more timorous, may not be.
I come from a scientific background and one of the things that concerns me about Brexit is that collaboration between European states will become more tricky. There is a hell of a lot of this kind of work going on. Or is this going to be yet another caveat from the Brexiteers on leaving? "We will continue to work as we do now on scientific and technological projects"
As for the problems being faced in parts of Africa, for decades we have continued to pump money down a black hole here. What is needed is for these countries to be given the science and technology to solve these problems. Internet, solar power etc etc.
And science and technology needs to keep evolving if we are to progress as a race.
I don't see why collaboration between us should be a problem, we will seek it, if they are like minded I am sure that with a bit of the pioneering spirit the 50,000 plus people they employ can, between them, come up with a solution.
