    Motherwell slump in the rain

A poor Motherwell side lost to Aberdeen and confirmed a place in the bottom half of the table when the league splits. Two second half goals in as many minutes ended the contest on a cold wet night at Fir Park. - External Link

    That was indeed a pi55 poor performance. 2 questions for me;

    1. How can an inspired first half performance on Saturday turn into a polar opposite just 72hrs later?
    2. How many times are we going to lose a first goal, then within minutes, concede a 2nd?

    Sorry, remembered a 3rd point ... Frear - what's the point son!?

A thoroughly deserved loss tonight and we can have no complaints. Aberdeen bossed the game from start to finish and should have gone in at least two goals up at half time, but it was only a matter of time before they got in front and yet again once we concede we are rattled and duly conceded a second.

We will need a massive, massive improvement at Hampden if we are to stand any chance but I fear that Aberdeen will have too much for us and our lack of quality will be greatly exposed on the big Hampden pitch against a quick playing footballing side like Aberdeen are. If we are to prevail in the Semi then we will need to repeat the League Cup QF performance and get in their faces, don't let them bully us like they did tonight. But we don't have Moult anymore to add that bit of quality to get us over the line like he did against them in September.

Don’t forget Aberdeen will be minus 3 key players and arguably our two best players/our central midfield 2.
Shay Logan, Graeme Shinnie & Kenny McLean all suspended (thanks for that Steven McLean you card happy muppet)
    That’s a leveller right there.

A dismal performance like tonight's won't, by a distance, get us through the semi. Then again, we won't be facing the same Aberdeen team, again, by a distance. McLean and Shinnie - their two best players, in my view - are out, as is Logan, who's arguably the only right back they've got. They've got better players than us, but this season we've beaten them twice, scoring five, and they've won twice, scoring three.
    It'll be a different game.

You would need the whole Aberdeen team to be missing for a leveller the way we played tonight. We were p*** poor.

Yes we have beaten them twice, but alot of that was down to Louis Moult in both the League Cup and up at Pittodrie in November. There is only so far character and will to win will take you especially against better sides and we no longer have that.

Not really when we're missing five or six ourselves. Our first XI has a much better chance of beating your first XI than our squad has of beating your squad because the difference in depth and quality gets so much bigger.

Not overly fussed about last night - we have consistently produced massive performances this season then been flat straight after. Frustrating but not unreasonable and even tolerable.

Aberdeen will almost certainly have too much for us at Hampden but you never know - bigger upsets have happened before.

No longer have it?! We just dug out a brilliant quarter-final win and got a point off Celtic with 10 men.

There's plenty we're missing but character and the will to win is there in abundance.

I meant to write we no longer have that bit of quality that Louis Moult brought to the table to get us through these types of games. There's only so much character will take you, you need a bit of quality and we no longer have that.
