    Computer geek's??

Ive had this trouble for a while so decided to try n solve it..
Windows 10 shows black screen after restart boot.
I did a install of Windows 10 on my laptop about 18 month ago which I bought in 2011 with Windows 7 originally on it. The install worked perfectly fine and the OS works great except for one thing. When I select the restart option, the computer restarts and shows the Windows boot logo but then after that I just get a black screen. At that point, if I press the power button to put the computer in sleep mode and then press it again to take it out of sleep mode, the login screen appears. When I choose to shutdown and do a cold boot, everything's boots up fine. I do not have the computer connected to another video output source when restarting so it should know to project onto my laptop screen. All of my drivers (including graphics) are up to date as well as all Windows updates. Please comment if anyone knows the solution to my problem. Thanks

Did you uninstall windows 7 after windows 10 was installed?

Most computers will set one to default and ignore the other software however if there is no default it can sometimes try to use both which gives ya computer on fritz.

Best thing to do is go to software and make sure windows 7 is uninstalled so you only have 10 on.

    Thanks silly, grist..
I removed windows 7 shortly after the windows 10 upgrade and everything was running fine for a while...

Just running a startup repair attempt from the link grist posted....

Strange how it will boot from cold. It's just the restart that's the problem..
I'm only trying to fix it as I'm guna put it up for sale. I normally just shut the lid when I'm finished using it so it's not been a problem...

Still trying to repair it's self (12 minutes in)

I'm not getting the black screen all the time pokermiller.
If I start from off it boots up ok and if I close the lid to sleep mode it works fine. The only time I get the black screen is when I click restart..
Guess it's sumat simple or not compatible..

It's never been easier to repair or reinstall Windows than it is with Windows 10. Download the media creation tool from this link https://tinyurl.com/ya7g3492 save it to a memory stick and boot to the memory stick. Your Windows product key will have been saved within your motherboard architecture. £55 is daylight robbery.

The only slightly worrying thing is when you describe the black screen it sounds as if it's not booting into BIOS (white letters on a black screen before Windows begins to load) which could indicate a deeper issue.

When I click restart. Laptop screen goes blue with white writing "shutting down". After 5 or 6 second the screen goes black and fan stops (guess all switched off). Laptop then fires into life with blue screen and the windows logo spinning.. after about 15 seconds screen goes dark grey. (I'm guessing what's called black screen). Fan is still running and power light is randomly flashing as when booting up.
It takes about another 30 seconds before the laptop settles down. Fan runs slower and light goes solid... Which I presume has fully booted..

If I then press the power button the laptop goes to sleep. (Black screen instead of grey) and power light goes out.
Another press wakes the laptop and takes me str to the desktop page...
I've checked the power settings and all are set as default.
Wonder if the bios needs updating? June 2011 was the date on it
I checked for the Toshiba service station and it's not loaded...
