    O/t why does Rotherham have..

Why does Rotherham have a Sheffield post code despite having its own dialling code? Is there a way to get rid of the shackles of Sheffield?

The Sheffield City Region Mayoral Combined Authority is a formal membership of councils. Formed in 2014, the constituent members of the Mayoral Combined Authority are Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley and Doncaster councils. The councils of Bassetlaw, Chesterfield, North East Derbyshire, Derbyshire Dales and Bolsover are ‘non-constituent’ members. The Mayoral Combined Authority shapes policy and leads on decision-making. On 4 May 2018, Dan Jarvis was elected as Mayor of the Sheffield City Region and Chair of the Mayoral Combined Authority.

In my opinion a good thing. We are already seeing huge economic decline in Rotherham and have been a conurbation of Sheffield for generations. The time of mysterious bitterness and small man syndrome has gone.

Barnsley, Chesterfield, Dronfield, Hope Valley, Mexborough, and Worksop have Sheffield post codes as well.

So collectively we may as well be classed as Greater Sheffield? But why?

I like the concept of the SCR Scum. I just wish, now the north midlands lot have bailed, they'd call it what it is .... SOUTH YORKSHIRE. Why give it a name that alienates the majority of the populous when you don't have to.

The "city" within "city region" is a misnomer. Take the Teeside region as an example.

So basically share and share alike, as long as it's three for me, one for you. And we'll let you have something decent as long as you put Sheffield on it in lights.

Its a fair point Hazza. Take the re-siting of the HS2 station. Meadowhall was clearly the "south yorkshire" option, but due to Sheffield city council pressure we end up with the station in Sheffield. If that's not an example of self serving, self interest I don't know what is.

A couple of years ago I heard an interview with richard caborn (think he was touting for mayoral candidacy). He was in Rotherham talking to some kids, and the gist was a lack of leisure facilities in the borough. His attitude was simply that the people of Rotherham should travel to Sheffield for the things they need because its not very far. They view us as an.overspill carpark. They like Rotherham money, but it should all be Sheffield, Sheffield, Sheffield.
