Are the players really that bad?

I'm not sure, but looking back over the last few years, we have had the inenviable knack of taking decent players (and managers) and turning them into rubbish.
Is it the set up? Is it some hidden pressure or is it that we try and play players in positions that they are not suited to?
Yesterday showed how some of our worse players this season can be pretty decent at times. The only player who seems to have escaped this is Jon Stead. Although yesterday wasn't one of his better days. How come other teams can sign nobodies and turn them into world beaters, whereas we do the opposite?

I've wandered the same thing many times, but I have no answer. It's been going on for years now - decade, even - and regardless of who's in charge. Other clubs manage to build teams of young, hungry, up-and-coming players, then sell them on and replace them, and all on budgets way less than ours, while we end up blowing the bank on has-beens, never-wills and other assorted dross.

But yeah, I think yesterday showed that the players can play better than they have been so far this season. With a few key signings in January, there should be enough to get us over the line. But who knows - maybe we'll not turn up at Oldham and get turned over again.
