Good luck with that Charlton (deluded)

Charlton owner Roland Duchatelet has "demanded" that the English Football League acquires the League One club.

The thing is Charlton Athletic isn't a small league one club .

It enjoys a top class stadium and draws its support from a wide catchment area in SE London and Kent , they can and have pulled in 25k easily .

They have every chance of getting promoted via the play offs this season as well .

A succession of poor decisions and that's the end result .

It could happen to anyone of us .

It's next door to Millwall and the whole area has massively changing demographics. The majority of new arrivals to the area have little interest in football.

And yet their gates are higher than they were in the early 80's when they were promoted alongside ourselves from the third tier .

They averaged around 25k in the PL years not too long ago either .

Isn't the idea of business to find strategies to draw in new customers from their communities? Change with the world as it changes or go under works in every other business, why not football?

From what I've seen , Charlton Athletic are doing a better job than most clubs re attracting fans and youth team players from their local communities, old or new, despite the absentee chairman of the club

Yes they are trying hard but for the traditional fan base West Ham is always going to be a magnet for the floating fans and the prawn sandwich brigade
