IMO massive gamble, did not do it with Derby in the Championship so I can't see it in the Prem.
They're following the Rotherham model !

I thought that I'd use a BBC website page seeing as you all contribute to its formation and type! Don't thank me
In all seriousness he's already a dead man walking.
He has to get all of the players back in who are out on loan to judge them and that in itself is a 8 month job. By the time it happens he'll be long gone, all of their kids will be sold, they'll be out of the FA Cup, all of the star players will get the better of him and he'll be sacked.
Can't think of a more stupid thing to happen apart from Gerrard becoming the next manager at Liverpool or Rooney at Everton!

I thought he was a huge gamble for Derby and baffled why even they appointed him so for a club like Chelsea to do it is bizarre
Gamble or best option ?
With the transfer embargo in place would any experienced manager fancy it as they'd be unable to stamp their mark on the squad. Can only work with what's in place
I think he'll do well tbh.
A fantastic player and I wouldn't say he failed at Derby being fair. Beat Leeds over 2 legs when you wouldn't have given them much of a chance.
He's got some great players to work with so who knows.
It obviously is a bit of a gamble but I tend to agree with this ^^^.
He showed he was growing into the job at Derby and hopefully he will be able to use that experience well at Chelsea.
I guess he will have wanted a few guarantees from the board given the potential issues at the club and I hope he is given time to put his stamp on things.
I liked him as a player and hope he does well as a manager.......even though he acted like a bit of a t*t at our place 😊.
The big thing for me Mellow is the players will respect him as he was a top top player himself.
That is so important in this day and age of the Prima Donna era.
For me he was a shining example of what a professional player should be like. The last to leave the training ground even at 38 years old, always trying to improve his game even at that age.
I'd wager he's a future England manager one day tbh.
Nice to see young British managers been given a chance at a top 6 club. Hope he’s a success.
Derby did what they always do even under Lampard. Faltered and stuttered all season and failed at the business end. It happens every year and Lamps was no different.
This after huge backing and funding. Ashley Cole would have wanted a princely sum to turn out for them.
It's the Managers job to get the best out of the players and produce consistently good results.
He wasn't able to do this so I don't see how he could be considered a good Manager
