O/T The times they are a changin'

When I started work in a Plessey Electronics factory almost 40 years ago, here's an email I got at work today that I don't think I would ever have expected to receive from HR back then (and before you say it I know email didn't exist back then so maybe Memo is more appropriate).

Last chance to register for Queer Trivia!
Think you have what it takes to defeat your colleagues? Form a team (from one to six people) and join the fun. This year’s 'Pub Style' Queer Trivia features film, music, local and historic categories. Register your team (up to six members) by Friday, June 21, to reserve your spot. The game takes place Tuesday, June 25, noon-1 p.m..........

Funny how words get hijacked. Such as “gay” which meant something else 40 years ago. Now “pride” is going the same way

When I first started management you could tell someone straight when they weren’t up to scratch no messing around just get yourself sorted or your out obviously if they were taking the piss.
Now it’s all meetings and tea and biscuits and asking them how they are feeling followed by loads more meetings till eventually they leave or you go through a ridiculous time consuming exercise and end up dismissing them.
Good old days when the workers were rewarded and the lazy ****s weren’t.
It’s all this bloody emotional intelligence crap 😁😁

Words always evolve. Awful used to mean amazing. Full of awe.
If someone was naughty in Victorian times it meant they had nothing. Naught.

There’s loads of examples. It isn’t a conspiracy for gay people to steal language from you.

I can see where you are coming from but I think you may be confusing awful with awesome [a word grossly overused by Americans in particular]
but where does gay evolve from?

The word Awful was originally used in the same context as awesome.

Gay meant colourful and happy didn’t it?

He's got it spot on. Too much time wasted on no hopers but the new regime of *****footing around has to now be adhered to.

No names mentioned but a woman at my works attended work when she felt like it. Seen out shopping when she was calling in ill etc. her ailments went on for over a full year. when facing dismissal she'd once again attend work and after a month or so she'd go off again citing something else was wrong with her.

Anyway, they finally dismissed her for failing to fulfil her contractual obligations. She had the balls to appeal and thankfully it was upheld.
Over a year she just messed the company about and it took meeting after meeting to keep on the right side of the PC employment brigade. In a nutshell she was just a damn lazy cow and good riddance!

I’ve no doubt there are people ‘swinging the lead’ and there will be genuine people that are genuinely ill through no fault of their own. Differentiating between the two must be difficult.
The woman you refer to ought to have been sorted earlier even allowing for present work time restrictions.
