'sin bins' being introduced at grassroots level from the start of 2019-20 season.

An excellent idea and about time to. There is far too much dissent on the filed that not only disrupts the flow of the game but also disrupts the Refs attention on what they are focusing on. This has worked well in Rugby over the years so why not, finally bring it into football. A team losing a player for 10 minutes is far more affective than just a yellow card, which we all know takes 5 to be received before any action is taken.

The Football Association is introducing 'sin bins' at grassroots level from the start of the 2019-20 season.

The 10-minute dismissals will be issued by referees as a sanction only for dissent, while shorter punishments will be applied in youth football. They will be indicated by a referee showing the guilty player a yellow card and pointing to the touchline.

"Dissent is a key part of the game that needs to be tackled," said the FA's chief executive Mark Bullingham.

Sin bins were first piloted during the 2017-18 season, and extended to a total of 31 leagues in the 2018-19 campaign.

It will be implemented up to step five of the National League System and tier three and below in women's football.

The FA found that there was a 38% total reduction in dissent across all leagues during the trial period.

Bullingham added: "Our pilot phase has proved that sin bins work well. The trial showed a huge impact on behaviour that we want to roll out to the whole game and make it more enjoyable for everyone."

As an ex official bring it on I say. Hopefully, it may make players think twice about their actions and what they are about to say or do.

It's the right way forward I think Brin, also having the ref plugged in for sound to allow the proof to be heard by others wouldn't be a bad idea either.

The only downfall is th injuries received unless the player is allowed to keep warm.

Hi Frog, I didn't send anyone off for dissent. I did book a few players though for dissent as they were well worth it.
Disruption to a game because a mouthy player can't hold his tongue affects everyone on the pitch and there's no call for it.

If on the other hand a player wants to make it their goal to be disruptive, argumentative or just wants to make your game as bad as they can, and some did, then you used the laws of the game to combat this.

The sooner the sin bins are brought in the better. I would well imagine that clubs of sin binned players will also come down hard on them and we may well soon see a greater reduction in yellows being given for dissent and games may flow more freely.

Sorry missed this about Ref's being miked up.

They've tried this in the past and I seriously cannot see this being brought back in. Reason being you would also hear assistants on the sidelines as they are all linked up. Imagine an assistant flagging for a penalty and the Ref over ruling them? Mayhem would ensue with Managers then having vocal recorded proof the Ref over ruled an assistant when they had the better view.

You may also hear the odd Ref giving it some verbal back which wouldn't stand well would it?

Not sure if it’ll work tbh.

Need Lino’s to actually do their job and put the effing flag up when he sees something and not just stand there waiting for Ref to decide.
Need refs who are actually honest doing their job because it’s just not happening is it.

MT, correct some are not and not allowing their Lino's to assist them. Lino's these days are told not to flag unless asked by the Ref if they had a clear sight, lino's keep their flags down when a throw in occurs even though they clearly know who's throw in it is. The Ref's totally dominate the game.

When I was Reffing at the weekends I would ask the home team for lino's and 99% of the time I got no - one. Therefore, I informed both sides that my decision was final and don't blame me if a ball goes out of play for a thrown in, I can't judge from a distance. Many a moan and groan but they couldn't blame me because no - one, and I'm talking of spectators all around the pitch, had the bottle to run a line when I even offered my own flags to use.

Overall it seems a good idea but maybe more difficult than it sounds to implement.

What if ( as regularly seen) more than one player surrounds the ref. Two, three or four in the sin bin? I can't see that happening.

Or if it's the keeper? A delay whilst jerseys are swopped for the stand in keeper?

There's too much tinkering going off at the moment

FootyMad was much better in the days when it had the sin bin and the moderators could yellow card someone for 1h/1d/7d or red card them for good (and rescind it if you changed your mind).

Grist, that all stopped two seasons ago and if you noticed last season, only the Captain was allowed to approach the Ref if a player was kicking off, or moreover, the Ref called the Captain over to calm the situation. You don't see 3 and 4 players surrounding a Ref anymore.

Bring it in and the sooner the better!
