Look to be closing in on a loan deal
Very good signing
Played most of the season for west Brom and a few champions league games thrown in for good measure.
Can play right back or centre half,so 2 bases covered.
Yes, very good signing if it happens
I'm a bit confused here. Would he be signed as the immediate partner for Lenihan, or is he further down the pecking-order than that?
We have been after a Centre half all summer. Whether that be Dann, or Hanley, or this lad.
It was a case of which deal we go over the line first. Reading into this, I think it shows we have been knocked back on Dann (wages will be the issue there) and maybe reluctant on Hanley.
You do need 4 centre halves, as we found out to our cost last season.
There isn't a club at our level that could survive on just 2.
Providing we end up keeping Mulgrew, I still don't see how he couldn't be used in Midfield. We would miss his goal threat, absolutely no doubt. He was our 3rd highest scorer last season, which cant be sniffed at.
I just think its clear to everyone that he is not good enough at centre half anymore. We leak more at the back, than he scores when he plays. With 2 very solid centre halves, and an experienced commanding keeper, I am sure he could play in the position we crave so badly. A creative player who can find the likes of Dack, Armstrong etc
I'm still a bit concerned that this lad, Adarabioyo, is being widely greeted as the "answer" to our centre-back problem. If that turns out to be true, brilliant!
However, does he really match the criteria we've been talking about?
Yes, he played a lot of Championship games last season, but mainly at right back. I've had a look at a couple of WBA sites, and the fans' reactions to him there, were only so-so. He is another U-23 player, bottom-line. I accept he may well have more potential than any of our own youngsters, but that doesn't make him a Scott Dann.
I may be worrying about nothing, but this isn't what I was expecting.
There is a touch of hypocrisy, there, I know, because last week I said I thought we might be able to cope without a new centre-back at all. It's just that if it turned out we were getting someone, I assumed it would be a battle-hardened type.

I'm of the same mindset.
Personally, if we sure up the midfield (which I think we have) and get a proper goalkeeper with experience, we don't actually need to get a centre half. We have enough as it is.
But ....you cant compare him to our young centre halves. They played 3 games between the lot of them. He played almost a full season, in a better side than ours.
He is about 2-3 season ahead of the lads we have who are the same age.
We keep saying this, but the reality is, our lads aren't progressing anywhere near as much as they should be. We have high hopes for these lads. But in reality, 3 have actually made it out of how many? Travis, Lenihan and Raya.
We release treble that every season.
If we had a lad who was good enough to have played all of last season, we wouldn't be looking around now.
The closest we have is Maglorie who played twice.
We clearly wanted Dann. I think that was obvious.
And I also think we have been working on a deal.
What we want, and what we end up are two different things.
Scott Dann earns £60k a week.
With only a few years left of his career, why would he take a huge pay cut? When he could move to another club, and get more than we can offer.
No way on earth can we afford to pay anyone over £30k a week, which is MASSIVE for us. More than what any other player is on.
So the reality is, we will be asking him to halve his weekly pay, right at the end of his career. His agent will be telling him to sack us off, that I can tell you.
Personally, if we got him in and an actual goalkeeper we'd be in and around those top 3 places.
This side is a couple of players away from being a top team at this level.
Personally I would feel this to be a very good signing,he is a centre back by trade but also plays right back, problem solved Bennett struggled at right back and showed we need cover there
Our appalling injuries at the heart of the defence also showed we need someone to partner lenihan.
I realise magloire is a player we need to monitor and look after but realistically he is probably at least a season away from a breakthrough.
We have a player who is experienced at this level and will of trained with city,so will be up and running already.
If this happens and that's a big IF at the moment,it would kill 2 birds with one stone and when you are precarious with money like us,he is just what we need.
I also think we will end up bring8bg 2 new keepers in. And letting Leutwiller go.
