How backward are Iran in modern day football?

An Iranian female football fan who set herself on fire a week ago has died.
The woman set herself alight in Tehran after her trial, for attempting to enter a football stadium disguised as a man, was postponed.
The authorities in Iran regularly stop women from entering stadiums.
Her story has been followed closely by Iranians around the world who used the hashtag "blue girl" - a reference to the colours of her favourite team, Esteqlal of Tehran.

Iran's government criticised over women stadium entry deadline
The woman, named as Sahar Khodayari, was arrested in March when she tried to enter a football stadium.
After being jailed for three days she was released on bail and waited six months for her court case.
But when she appeared at court she found out it had been postponed because the judge had a family emergency.
She later returned to court to pick up her mobile phone and it is widely reported that she is thought to have overheard someone saying that if she were convicted she could get six months to two years in prison.
She then set herself alight in front of the court house and later died in hospital.
Women in Iran have been stopped from going to stadiums to watch men’s sporting events since 1981. This was temporarily lifted last year to allow women to watch the World Cup being streamed at a stadium in Tehran.

Totally unacceptable and Fifa should step in somewhere on this in my opinion. Disgraceful.

It might be an idea to look closer to home and fix it here first.

There are many second class citizens married to Muslim men in the UK

A Muslim man used to come to the Rotherham community health centre regularly with his English wife & she had to walk 2yrds behind him all the time.

We knight ex-cricketers who **** their partners and then minimise protests about it on websites like this.

    Same problem, different magnitude.

Maybe I'm too insular and perhaps bigoted but I don't care that much I just wish that the Muslim people restrict their abhorrent practices to Muslim countries, or at least wait until Corbyn and crowd get in and make this a Muslim country.

As appalling as it is to ourselves I'm never comfortable telling nations how to behave in their own country .

It's their culture and laws and actually none of our business .

I get angry when immigrants bring some of their darker cultures here because that is very much our business and they shouldn't be tolerated .

    Just my opinion .

Kerr, the two issues are completely different. I'm not interested in Boycott's knighthood, afterall, didn't he say a few years ago when asked why he'd not yet been knighted after all these years, he replied, 'Maybe I should black my face up then I might get one'

My topic is on the backward and completely out of date way Iran treat their female population on attending football games. So, my question to everyone is what do you think can be done about this?

We could go on about foreign laws forever. She broke the law in her country.
    Suicide a bit extreme.

We are a mongrel shyte nation with no grasp on what democracy means.

We're in no position to preach to any other country about morals or how to run things.

Sort out our own backyard first and even then resist poking a nose in.
