    Rangers - 24h on

Motherwell were widely praised for their performance at Ibrox but that is small compensation for the loss of the game. The manager got the tactics right but we failed to hold on for a point. - External Link

The proper highlights show Defoe definitely wasn't offside and the shot Gillespie punched was with the side-foot from over 20 yards - there's no way that wasn't a gk error!

He needs to catch that one, that's another poor one from Gillespie that's cost us a goal. I would have Carson in goal on Wednesday night .

That was the game changer for me. We had to hold out until half time but that goal completely swung the momentum in their favour, just as Scott's penalty miss against Aberdeen did last weekend. Our performance thereafter was dire and we can have no complaints about losing.

I agree that the view on TV gave the impression that the 'keeper should have done better. But my reaction with a side on live view was that he did well to block a well struck shot (side foot or not). I don't think he had much of a chance to direct the ball to safety.

Gilliespie has stabilised since his wee poor spell earlier, I wouldn't bin him for that. Though it's another on his account to be sure.

But the same thing applies as back then, we on the sidelines have absolutely no idea whether Carson is at the same level as before. Robinson will and if he thinks Carson is better than Gillespie he will get his chance...but he now hasn't played a competitive game in nearly a year and was even given only limited time in the pre-season friendlies. You hope he's not done but you can't help but wonder.

If Carson is finished fitness wise why are the club offering him a new contract. IMO Carson just needs the chance at first team football to show he is back to his best

We've no idea what's in that contract he's been offered. Perhaps he's no better than an average SPFL back-up now and that is reflected in the terms?

We offered a contract to Tanner which he (seemingly) felt not worth taking despite not having played for goodness knows how long with a career changing knee injury. I'd say the fact we've offered Carson something is not nearly so suggestive as the fact we had the chance to nurse him back to playing through friendlies/LC group games this summer but didn't...but we shall see.

Neither play nor club expected him to sign the offer. Sadly that tells you something.
