    Son's red card

    Load of bollocks, that.

Atkinson lost his nerve and let his emotions get the better of him. His initial reaction was to give a yellow and the challenge warranted it...but no more. I'd like to think Spurs would appeal but, having heard the Refs' association back the ref, I don't think they'd get any joy.

Horrid injury, obviously, but bad decision.

Don´t agree, I´m afraid. Son made no attempt to get the ball and clattered him from behind. Sure he wasn´t trying to break his leg but he was trying to hurt him in revenge for the hand in his face a minute before. You can´t have players going around looking to hurt others out of revenge.

Bit if a strange one this.He got a yellow and it was changed to red without using VAR.
So why if a challenge or say something like the elbow last year by the Wolves player when he got a yellow but after the game it was deemed a red but couldn't be changed as he was shown yellow.
How can they change it on the field but not after a game?.

How Atkinson is still stealing a living as a so called top flight referee beggars belief after years of incompetence. At least Son appears to be remorseful over what happened - a stark difference to the Leicester player who injured Matt Ritchie in the League Cup, what seems ages ago - here’s his quote as reported by The Chronicle back then:

"It was a 50/50 and he has pulled out at the last minute which has made the tackle look a lot worse," said Choudhury.

Oh well then - if Ritchie doesn’t pull out against him next time and he’s out for however long instead, then that’ll be OK then?

    100% a bad decision.
You're correct, the ref went on a wave of emotion. Son was distraught but it was not directly his fault. A simple foul and a yellow card was the order of the day.

You can see from this that it wasn't Son's fault.

Atkinson should have had a red for that decision.

Glad it's been overturned. Don't fancy Spurs that much, but always did like Son for some reason. Great player although he dives too much generally. In this particular situation it was obvious that he didn't care about the red card, he just couldn't believe what he had - partly - caused and was shocked about the whole thing. Definitely did not mean for that to happen.

I think if he hadn´t have been red carded he would´ve been subbed straight away because he was in no condition to keep on playing.
