O/T:- Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 to finish support soon.

    what this means to you.

Windows 7 support will end on January 14, 2020. If you continue to use Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 after support has ended, your PC will still work, but it will become more vulnerable to security risks and viruses because you will no longer receive software updates, including security updates, from Microsoft. Microsoft strongly recommends that you move to a new PC running Windows 10 sometime before January 2020 to avoid a situation where you need service or support that is no longer available.

Why do they do that? It's happened with the video editing software I use which forces me to pay for an upgrade. I guess I've answered my own question.

I have Mac and Apple do this in a sneaky, cunning way. They encourage you to upgrade to the newest MacOS for free and when you do, you find your Mac runs slower than it did before. Do it more than once and you think 'I need a new Mac' this is so slow. So Apple get you to buy a new computer ! (you can google this online - loads of the Apple fan boys rush to Apple's defence - it is a cult after all - but I have experienced this personally ever since 2007)
