    Martin Peters

Just announced that Martin Peters, a member of the World Cup winning team has passed away. He came through the West Ham Youth system before being transferred to Spurs as part of the Jimmy Greeves deal.

The only time I tried my luck as an "autograph hunter" was after an evening game against the Hammers in, I think, 1961. In the big crush outside the players entrance after the game I somehow found myself catapulted onto the Hammers bus. And there they were looking like pop stars, Peters, Hurst and Moore and the rest of the team obviously.

Martin Peters was the first to sign my book and then passed it around the rest of the bus. Never to be forgotten. No idea what happened to the book!

    RIP Martin.

The ranks of our World Cup winning heroes are really beginning to thin out. Good player was, Martin, may he R.I.P.
