O/T Oscars this Sunday. Parasite shock winner?

If you don't mind sub-titled films would thoroughly recommend Parasite. The Academy have never ever awarded the best film Oscar to a foreign language film but this could be the first and defeat hot favourite 1917. Director Bong Joon Ho might even win the best director Oscar.

I still think 1917 will win. Not because I think it is a better film but the best editing usually gets best picture as well.
For it’s lack of plot 1917 has flawless editing.

Oscars, baftas, daftas, whatever you want to call them, are all a stage managed farce.

Just a night out for the luvvies.

I don’t get the lack of a plot Scum, 2 soldiers sent on a near suicide mission to prevent a battalion from charging into an enemy trap !

It’s got a rave review in my daily this morning Timbertop, as for subtitles , with the quality of the soundtrack on most modern films and my hearing in decline I’m quite at home with subtitles

It’s a bit linear mate. No depth, no sub plot very little character depth.

I really enjoyed the first 30 minutes then the novelty wore off, the tokenism kicked in and the end was melodrama by numbers.

I agree about the first 30 minutes, it would have have warranted the acclaim if it could have kept that momentum going for the entire film.

In case you want to watch Grist, 7 hours of On The Red Carpet coverage started on TV here just over 90 minutes ago leading up to the 3 hour show starting at 1am your time. Oh - and after that there's 3 more hours of after the Oscars party coverage
