Good start and then, after a quarter of an hour, Bielik gets himself sent off with a totally reckless challenge that deserved red and got it.
After that Derby were the better side in the rest of the 1st half and took the lead with Knight's first ever senior goal and he even got kicked in the face scoring it.
Ref was right on Bielik but so wrong on so many fouls they made that weren't given. Gallagher, the pantomime villain should have had yellow shortly after Bielik's red and another 2nd half. He finally got one at the 3rd time of asking and then got given a penalty he shouldn't have got which they scored to make the last 15 (incl injury time) more than interesting.
Why do we always get crap refs? I lost count of his first half mistakes 99% of which were in Charlton's favour.
2nd half he was more friendly towards us except for the penalty.....
We played 82 minutes with 10 men and thoroughly deserved the win.
Guess what? No Lawrence and we finally looked dangerous and in charge.
I'd keep Knight there and he worked so well together with Lowe and Bird. No way should TL get back in barring injuries.
Bielik? He was treading a fine line at Wigan. Destroyed the line completely in his lunge at Gallagher. He needs some TLC and guidance in his, what I expect to be, 3 match ban before he gets back in.
Even with 10 men, tonight's performance levels have me thinking "who does Rooney replace". Seeing the injury, likely Waggy on Thursday.
Hamer had a very good game.
Wisdom too. Better defensively than eye infection victim Bogle.
Davies was steady Eddie.
Clarke looked like he hadn't had a lay off.
Lowe outstanding.
Holmes was brilliant.
Bielik, less said the better.
Bird outstanding.
Knight outstanding.
Waggy put in a shift but should have done better with the chance(s)
Marriott got into good positions, needs time to get his sharpness back.
10 men. We only had 10 men but they were excellent tonight.
I'm not going to predict we will take up where we left off come Thursday but with the Rooney effect and, hopefully, the 3 young uns kept in the side and the rest reproducing tonight's standards we ought to see Barnsley off but, as we all know, nothing is guaranteed for us this season.
Suffice it to say I was happy with both the performance and the result tonight.
