    O/T:- Iran admits downing plane

As I said a few days ago (http://boards.footymad.net/showthrea...9#post39405949) evidence was stacking up that the plane was shot down.

The Iranians have now admitted it deflecting some blame on the pressure the Americans have put them under. However, with my conspiracy theory hat on, was it that error or was there a different error. We all heard the chanting "Death to America". Well there were a lot of North Americans boarding that plane, and of course the plane, Boeing, is American. So maybe someone relayed the opportunity to kill a whole load of Americans. It won't be the first time Canadians have been mistaken for their southern cousins.

Oh and the plane wasn't on any unusual flight path. It had barely taken off and was doing a normal climb. So who are they trying to kid here. There are any number of plane/flight tracking sites out there that folk can watch and if I've got someone to meet at the airport I track the flight that way.

Anyway the Iranians are now going to upgrade their systems so the same mistake won't happen again (thanks Putin).

The next question is why try to cover up something that is so obviously going to be found out? It's smacks of the boy denying he stole the choccy biscuits whilst having a brown mouth and sticky hands. What is the purpose of the game? Buying time? Trying to confuse? Wanting to look stupid?

Let's see if the parties involved can take this relatively quiet period to reflect on their recent actions though I'm not optimistic.

... weak governments like to pretend they are in control in order to impress their own populations. Classic was, and to some extent still is, with the cold war Soviets and now Russia. They get found out eventually.

I speculated on the 'Trump' thread that given the two hour gap between the Iranian attack on the US air bases and the Ukrainian plane coming down, the most likely scenario would be that the Iranian air defences on high alert for an immediate American response and probably mistook this commercial airliner for a hostile one. It would appear from their apology that this is pretty much what happened.

From the Iranian viewpoint this week could hardly have gone worse. They've lost one of their top military commanders and through their response - which was always about appeasing their own people rather than seriously threatening the US - they've managed to demonstrate their disorganisation and incompetence by accidentally killing a plane full of innocent people, many of whom were Iranians!

Plus they've compounded it by making implausible denials for a couple of days before finally coming clean, which undermines the integrity of their apology. This national embarrassment could end up moving Iran closer to regime change than the Americans might ever have envisaged!

It was very unfortunate that it was a Ukrainian jet that was shot down. Accidentally. By an ally of Russia.

Still, at least the Iranians have had the good grace to fess up.(eventually). Putin’s mob are still trying to deny they shot down the Malaysian jet. Over Ukraine.

It would have been better if there hadn't been an air crash to speculate about.

Wouldn't have happened if the US hadn't illegally attacked Iran though, would it.

No, another group of people would probably have been killed instead in a different place, such is the nature of international conflict and politics. It's the law of the jungle and the question of which side is right or wrong or good or evil is a futile one. The answer depends on where the person making the call happens to be standing.

Perhaps so, but in this instance it wouldn't have happened if the US hadn't illegally attacked Iran.

... you're doing quite well as an apologist for Iran, Mr TS; or is it Ms TS? Suppose all the attacks by Iran, or its proxy murderers, are legal too? Are you sincere in your comments; perhaps you're just a wind up merchant ...
