Hi-Di-Hi. - Anyone used to watch this popular series ?

I was very fond of this series many years ago, and have started to watch it again on UK Gold. It seemed to typify the sort of holiday that families used to want , and all these holiday camps sprung up all over the country to satisfy the demand at the time. The characters were well suited to the parts, and some were very much under rated as the series began to develop with numerous escapades surrounding the Yellowcoats.Of course the script writing was spot on, although a bit saucy at times, the programme did have a serious side, focusing on the characters own problems. As a family, we only visited a holiday camp once, and that was to Butlins , Minehead when our two children were in their early ****s. It certainly catered for everything the average family was looking for , and it didn’t matter if the weather was poor, as you could always keep occupied. If it wasn’t for the package holidays and the lure of guaranteed sunshine, the holiday camp business just might have continues for a bit longer. Great days, and we are glad we had the chance to sample what Sir Billy Butlin had on offer.

It wouldn't be everyones' cup of tea, however, the scripts were brilliant and written by two prolific comedy writers in Jimmy Perry and David Croft, who also wrote Dad's Army which still gets many airings on TV.
They also wrote It Ain't Half Hot Mum which is now banished because of the modern age, however, I have the box set and still laugh at what was very good humour.

Sue Pollard was brilliant and we used to meet her doppelganger every year when my mum and dad took me and my sister to Wallis' Holiday Camp at Cayton Bay near Scarborough.

Every night a "turn", four wheel, twin axle, four seat pedal taxis to go around the camp on. OMG I used to love it, we went about five years running, I even enjoyed meeting all the rough kids from Leeds!

I never really liked it much, there's a list of comedy shows as long as your arm I used to love, but Hi-Di-Hi isn't on it. A lot of people think Fools and Horses was one of the best ever, but that's not on my list either.

I'm with you on that Mon Ami. I bet you didn't like "Are you being served?" either? Me neither.

I DID like Steptoe and Son and a couple of others but I was a Python bloke myself.
