It went rong the minit greed league ( Premiership started ) gon darnhill ivvasin![]()
It just shows how shoddy and greedy it went when the official people coming into vote were given ITV's offer for tv rights and a few indiscreet phone calls to Sky who obviously promptly put a higher offer in which was accepted and the statement was it would enhance the game.Yeah for the men in suits not the supporters
I understand the anger towards the way the game is today , especially amongst older fans like myself .
Are the players paid too much money ?
Definitely .
Are ticket prices too high ?
Absolutely .
Those to me are the two main points of contention .
There is also another side to this when you look back and watch football pre PL .
The game today is a far better product and that goes down to the championship too .
Does anyone old enough to have seen , Mick Clarke , Chris Hedworth , Mark Ogley , Darren Foreman , Ian Chandler actually realise they dug us out of the second division relegation hole .
Both you and I know today they wouldn't , I don't think in all honesty they'd have got more than 8 points today over 46 games .
Liverpool and Man City are phenomenal football teams today , they really are .
We've a PL here that the rest of the world looks at as the best league on the planet and its started to nudge ahead of La Liga in Spain .
There's two sides to this and I can see it from both perspectives .
And you know just remember in 97 when we got all that bloody cash none of us bloody moaned about it , we all signed up to the bstrd .
Footballers today are fitter, faster, stronger and generally more skillful, but are seriously lacking in character.
But the pitches and balls help a lot.
Best, Marsh, Bowles, Curry, Worthington, Hoddle etc had it all despite being kicked all game, every game.
Imagine how good they'd be on today's pitches
Clarke initially brought professionalism to Barnsley and that was all that was needed to make a difference.
When he added skill & flair to the squad we never looked back.
Now every team has that professionalism and organisation, too much in fact.
All the time wasting, play acting, diving and feigning injury have ruined it for me.
Even with VAR they refuse to penalise blatant cheating.
Modern fans accept it and don't see anything wrong with it.
They scream for cards for good honest challenges and shout for penalties every time someone falls over.
Even hard men like Souness & Keane see fouls that don't exist sometimes.
Hodger
It's pure marketing on the games law makers part .
The marketing strategy is to create a game where attacking football isn't nullified by the cynical .
The Leeds United's of the 70's can't exist now and won't ever exist again .
You can't kick your way to success , the likes of the Crazy Gang today would still be in the fourth division .
As it gone too far ?
That's probably the real issue isn't it , the balance between what was known back in the day as a man's game and attacking play allowed to be the most effective component and free of the cynical .
The big bucks which control the game are the judge and jury and nobody pays the prices today at the ticket office or subscription to see Leeds United kick their way to the League title or Wimbledon to cynically be a boil on the ass for elite football clubs .
Nobody would pay to see that in the numbers they do at the moment .
It's a lot of the new wave of fans that boil my pyss as well as the things mentioned by others in this thread.
Entertainment we want entertainment they cry. We've paid our money blah blah fecking blah. Most of em ent a fecking clue abart football. Too busy filming a player tekkin a throw in or booing a manager after 5 winless matches. "We've paid our money so we'll say what we want" is a modern cliche.... Yeah but you talk utter sh1t mate
Darts ez gone same rooard. I used to love watching the arrows but these days the crowd make it unbearable for me to watch. Again, ent a clue most on em and certainly not aware of what's going down on the oche.
Ryder cups heading that rooard n all with fans. Yanks ev allus bin over the top numpties, we all know that but the last Ryder cup in Paris the European fans were showing zero in class. Proper European golf fans pride themselves on their etiquette and having the right protocol. If this new sh1t creeps into the Open then a really couldn't bear it.
At end ot day we avidly watch sports simply for the love of it and appreciation. The money men in various sports have cashed in big time by turning what used to be humble spectatorship into a 'big occasion' and charge folk the earth to witness this 'big occasion'. The money men have mastered the art of marketing events to cater for people with half a brain and a hole in their wallet.
Big time boxing is the same. Knock out a few sing along tunes in the build up such as 'sweet caroline' on full blast and flash the fancy lights triggering off peoples epilepsy, fancy dress and a supersize lager in your hand, film the 5 minute walk ons on your mobile and that's your entertainment for the night sir. Sooner or later the actual fight almost becomes secondary. That's your new wave fan in a nutshell. Barry and Eddie Hearn tapped into this years ago and have made millions art of it and continue to do so.
"flash the fancy lights triggering off peoples epilepsy"
A know it's not funny if thaz gorrit burrit made me laugh that Pass.
Yanks started all the razzmatazz and its crept into all sports I can't stand it it's all false crap
Popcorn anyone ?
