Burnley v Brighton Match Preview Part One

Well at last we have come to the final match of a long drawn out season and our visitors are old foes Brighton (remember those trips to the Goldstone ground?). A North v South clash. A clash of two of the brightest young English managers in the EPL. Graham Potter cut his managerial teeth with Ostersund gaining promotion to the highest league in Sweden and winning the Swedish Cup. An enterprising Europa League campaign followed with eventual elimination to Arsenal despite a thrilling 2-1 away leg win at the Emirates. Following a short spell at Swansea City Potter has moved on to manage Brighton. His Ostersund side were noted for their slick passing game and this will be his philosophy at Brighton so can we expect a clash of playing styles with Burnley’s supposedly more direct tactics? You probably won’t catch Potter (unlike many so-called pundits) stereotyping Burnley as longball or anti-football. Unfortunately Ashley Barnes will not be available against his old club but Chris Wood who had a loan spell with the Seagulls is available and in good scoring form. Nick Pope goes in search of the Golden Glove but may well need a clean sheet even to get a share of the award. A win will take us to 57 points and give us a chance of an 8th place finish. Sadly Burnley are rarely at their best on the final day of a league season. Let’s hope we are on the winning side on Sunday. COYC!

ps. I have posted a link to the Brighton take on this game in the Match Preview Part Two.
