    O/T Live Aid

Been watching some of it on YouTube. Absolutely brilliant performances from the music stars of the time, notably Queen, U2, Bowie, Phil Collins, Sting, Dire Straits, Elton John, Ultravox. I ent seen it all yit and I'm sure theres many more.

The event was something special and summat to say tha wo actually theer. Wembley looked awsome and the money raised was tremendous.

Combined with the American effort there was 16 hrs of continuous live music. Hard to believe it were 35 years ago. I were only 7 year owd when it all happened and I vaguely remember it.

A tell thi summat them pop stars of the 80s put today's garbage to shame. Geldofs appeal and passion for the cause swearing live on TV was hard to forget.

Bit of a generation thing Pass is this post mate from myself , the event was a marvelous thing to do and raise all that money and Geldof was clearly affected by african famine and had the will and motivation to do something about it , top man .

Back to the actual concert , it was dying of death mate before Queen and Freddy did that legendary set .

Queen rescued it and musically it's remembered for that , U2 were alreight mainly because Bono did that thing with the young lass in the crowd and did a very good live version of Bad .

Other than that it was a bit forgettable in my opinion .

Tha's got to remember the amount of musical talent around at that time , ten a penny mate and we could afford to be critical because we were spoilt rotten .

I played football in Liverpool the night before and our coach did a detour to drop one of our lads to get a lift down to Wembley.
On the Saturday I was playing cricket all day so only got to see the later stuff.
The things you do when you're young and don't appreciate when history is being made.
I saw Queen a couple of years ago and the lad that fills in for Freddy was first class.
Bowie for me was always a class act.
Some sad losses from that line up. Like you say, we were spoilt.

I've often thought though that Live Aid may have been hard work for us back then because we hadn't seen anything like it before .

There were festivals of course but nowt like tha see's today and the majority of us were accustomed to seeing the one live band or artist , a support act and that was that .

Ten hours worth on live tv that saturday was culturally a bit much for a few of us .

Not only that tha'd got the US one going on at the same time in Philadelphia which was also covered in full .

That one niver got going at all , the sound was all to shyte , even Led Zepp sounded shyte .

There was another aspect to Live Aid that also left you feeling a little underwhelmed musically .

As the afternoon progressed a rumour emerged that Paul , Ringo , George were going to be joined by John's son Julian Lennon and were going to do the last hour to close the event .

It seemed pretty feasible given they were all there in some capacity or another .

You could easily have kept any rehearsals quiet in the media because if told they could be trusted to do so in those days to keep strum .

Freddy had the aids virus at Live Aid but because that's how he wanted it nobody knew he had it until two days before he died in 1991 , a full 6 years earlier , that would never happen today with the media and all the internet shenanigans going on .

I'd have donated hundred quid to Live Aid if the fab three plus Julian had done an hours set , all the old hits , it would have been off the scale .

They had the event , all the world was watching , the cause was right and alas it never happened .

It should have done and whatever little grievances they may have been what a stage to put them to one side at an historic event like that and such a cause .

Very sad it didn't happen .
