    9 Years On....

9 Years on. From this to the National League. Sigh. Cherish the memory!

It's also the anniversary of the first ever Football League fixtures back in 1888, although we weren't involved until the 15th.

Interesting to see who was in the 5th tier at the time, only two of the 24 clubs are at the same level today - Wrexham and Stockport - which goes to show how unstable this level is.
Promoted to the FL the season we played Juventus... Fleetwood Town and York City. Lincoln City finished 17th. Eastwood Town were in the 6th tier.

Let us take hope from the fact that nine years ago Luton, Wimbledon, Fleetwood, Cambridge, Crawley, Mansfield, Grimsby, Barrow, and Newport were all playing at this level and all of these clubs will start the new season in the football league. Luton even made it as far as the Championship. Fleetwood and Wimbledon made it as far as League One.

I firmly believe that the toughest hurdle will be getting back in the football league. Once we have achieved that goal then hopefully like other clubs under the stability of our owners we can maintain some momentum and progression over the next nine years.

Also interesting that the team we’d beaten the previous weekend before this game was Bournemouth. Wonder which way they’ll go now - back to the “mean” (probably League 1) or back to the Premiership.
